विश्व प्रसिद्ध पुस्तक "ऐलिस इन वंडर लैंड" चार्ल्स लुडविग डौजसन ने अपने उपनाम लुइज़ कैरोल से लिखी थी। पर कहानी मूल रूप से बच्चों के लिए होते हुए भी छोटे – बडे सभी लोगों में अत्यधिक लोकप्रिय है। ऐलिस एक साहसी बालिका है जो अन्वेषी प्रकृति की है और चुनौती पूर्ण स्थितियों का सामान करने में तत्पर है। वह विचित्र से लगने वाले, कोट पहने सफेद खरगोश का उत्सुकतावश पीछा करते हुए उसके बिल में प्रवेश कर अचरज की दुनिया में पहुँच जाती है। वहाँ विचरण करते हुए उसका सामना नाना प्रकार के मानवों की भाँति व्यवहार करने वाले जीव – जन्तुओं और ताश के पत्तों से होती है। विभिन्न प्रकार की अद्भुत वस्तुएँ खा पीकर उसका कद और आकार घटता – बढ़ता रहता है।

कहानी में मनोरंजक वार्तालापों तथा सम्मोहक दृश्यों का वर्णन किया गया है।

मूल कहानी का सम्पूर्ण रूप में हिन्दी में अनुदित करना कठिन कार्य था, खासतौर पर कविताओं का जो कथानक से अन्तरंग रूप से जुड़ी हुई हैं। अंग्रेजी के द्विअर्थी शब्दों के कारण कई जगह भाषा का अनुकूलन करके अनुवाद करना पड़ा।
