Padhi is a veteran, having served in the Indian Army for four decades. He is an alumnus of NDA, IIT Delhi and Osmania University, with a rich and varied experience, from training Commandos to procuring weapons for the country, 
After superannuation in 2015, he has written many stories and articles about his service career, which have been widely acclaimed. He intends to collate these in a book soon.
Moved by the many challenges posed to humanity and the desperate situation arising across the globe due to the Covid-19 virus, he began penning stories and poems woven around the events which unfolded during the pandemic. ‘Corona Times-Short Stories & Poems’ is a testimony to his literary endeavor. He is sanguine that the readers will enjoy reading the book as they get a firsthand feel of the various characters as they peruse the articles and also draw valuable lessons. Few of the poems are hilarious, though dealing with some sticky situations.
He is the recipient of two Presidential Awards; the Vishist Seva Medal in 2014 for Distinguished Service of a High Order and the Param Vishist Seva Medal in 2015 for Distinguished Service of the Most Exceptional Order.
His wife Dhirashree is an educationist and the children Anusmita and Srikant are in the USA.
