Author, actor, radio and television anchor and presenter, sports commentator, history buff and an advertising professional, Sunil Gupta is a man of many parts.
His first book on his experiences in the Indian advertising industry, Living on the ‘Adge’ in JhandeWalan Thompson was published by Roli Books in December 2009. Sunil also contributed to an anthology by eminent authors and personalities on the COVID-19 pandemic titled, The Phoenix Rises – Lockdown Chronicles, which was published by Wisdom Tree in June 2020.
An accomplished theatre actor, he has performed in over 50 plays with groups such as Stagedoor, TAG, Yatrik, The Players, ACE Productions and Urban Suburban productions. He has performed on the stage in Moscow and St Petersburg with the ICCR for the Year of India in Russia Festival, as well as in Lahore at the Rafi Peer International Theatre Festival.
He has anchored specialized TV serials such as The Dream Merchants, Commercial Break and Brand Champs. He played a key role in Newsline, a pioneering TV serial back in 1995, and has recently performed in The Family Man and Breathe-Into the Shadows, and acted in the movies Talvar, Mom, and Vijaynagar. An established cricket commentator on AIR, Sunil is also a panellist on the BBC podcast Stumped and has done TV commentary for the Star Sports Pro Kabaddi League. He writes for ad industry publications, plays tennis and bridge, and enjoys a few pints in the evenings.
His love for nature, especially the hills, and his view on global current affairs are deeply embedded in this book.
