Preface

Tamanna Mishra was born in a small town called Jamshedpur, India. The small town falls in the fault line of India, so, for better opportunities and growth, her parents moved to the Middle East and raised her in Dubai. She is a high school student at DPS Dubai prior to taking up karate as a hobby and to prepare the book for the greater interest of the karate fraternity with creative non-fiction publishing. She is more than a happy go lucky girl in her debut karate book.

Her book writing was inspired by two things. The first is that she was born in an isolated town in the lap of Dalma Hill, where her parents felt like they didn’t fit in to achieve their life goals. She felt voiceless as a kid. Eventually, as she grew older, she ended up finding her power and voice through writing and an urge to become a technocrat with gaming technology. Then, in 2019, she decided to write a book about karate to fill the gap. And she didn’t know what it was going to be about; all she knew was that it was going to be about people such as karate practitioners who perceived her as a kid and students who felt a sort of information thirst. She wanted them to get complete knowledge about the basics of karate and guide new enrollees.

At present, she is studying in high school. She is a technology enthusiast, karate black belt, and enjoys reading about some powerful karateka people. All of those things combined to plant the seed for Ember. So, it was very much a combination of her childhood and real-world events that she is writing about in the non-fiction book, using easy language to explain training words.

Tamanna Mishra has been working with bot technology for over a year. She provides technology and writing support to her father’s startup arena. Her educational interest in literature and computer has given her a broad base from which to approach many topics. She wishes to bring changes in karate with the book and teaming up with technology will modernize karate without changing the age-old traditions. Her motive is to give a new look to karate as a whole and to change the perspective of new generations of the 21st century.

Acknowledgments

Writing this book was harder than I thought and more rewarding than I could have ever imagined. The processes of scribbling down the notes provided by my sensei and transferring them to the daily diary notes fetched a lot in terms of making the book. The process of writing helped me immensely in my day to day karate training and eased my gradings too. None of this would have been possible without the help of my dad and mom; they are the real inspiration. My father was the first person who taught me the habit of writing and made available every resource required for its success. When I trained at the dojo, my mother waited for hours near the bus stop to accompany me on the way home; that return journey was full of knowledge and sharing conversations—many real-life thoughts are inscribed here in the book from those conversations. My parents stood by me during every struggle and all my successes. That is true support.

To all the individuals I have had the opportunity to be led by or watch their leadership from afar, I want to say thank you for being the inspiration and foundation for this book. Dr. Renshi Renjith, the Grand Master of Golden Fist International Karate Academy, Dubai is everything about karate for me, and most of the basic write-ups in this book are directly or indirectly interpreted from his training.

Without the experiences and support from my peers and support staff at Karate Academy, this book would not exist. You have given me the opportunity to learn a great martial art, and to be a karateka is a blessed tag I have received so far. Thank you, Sensei Sijith, for motivating me and teaching the true essence of karate.

Having an idea and turning it into a book is as hard as it sounds. The experience is both internally challenging and rewarding. I especially want to thank the individuals that helped make this happen: Ishani Wijesooriya, Kishore Kumar, Trewon Weerasooriya, Sana Muhammed, Jenisha Vishwakarma, and the digital karate team.

Finally, to all those who have been a part of my journey.
