“The toughest thing about success is that you have got to keep on being a successful person. Talent is only a starting point in business. You have got to keep working that talent”
- Irving Berlin

Twinkle twinkle little stars, who is going to be the next superstar, the student superstar. I believe that we are going to create great stories. It is high time to write our own stories. How great you want to be? How are you going to do that? Each soul has a right to live life up to expectations. It is a privilege to live the life we dream to live. The first rule of a dream is the dreamer should have interest, talents, and ready to spend time exploring the dream; others do not deserve to dream. The intention is more important than intelligence. Everybody has talent; hence it is important to develop the talent you have, not the one you want. Happiness is the core objective of life. You are happy only when you are giving. Days in which you are not happy are not counted. If you are not happy, you are not living at all.
The Spirit of achieving something should be tested and safeguarded. We cannot tolerate the pathetic cry of our unaccomplished dream. We need to replace fear with curiosity. Whenever there is a setback, we should think of life as a chain of events. Any goal-oriented individual should think of life as a larger spectacle. We should have certain career competencies to be successful to chase dream career choices. We should maximize our existing potential talents to be maximizing the chances of success. Imagine if schools helped us to identify our signature strengths and to find our inner calling, we would have got clarity in what kind of person we want to be. All jobs and proposed careers are industrial requirements. What we study is a prescribed education that helps us to become employable and to perform well on the job given. It is not necessary that we should meet the industrial expectations. We can have different dreams and career objectives. We can choose a career based on our potential talents and passion. Talent is an inherent ability that is innovative, inspiring, and collaborative. Talent gets things done. Talent brings success. Talent can be unpredictable, fakable. Talent is hidden, under-utilized, and wasted. Talent is not just to be managed, controlled or noticed. It needs to be unlocked, leveraged, unleashed. All we need is a higher level of insight. The personal dreams should be practically perfect in every way.
With proper self-analysis we can understand what we want, what to develop, and how to promote ourselves as a brand. Career management is not about choosing a course; it is about to start living with the dream of who we want to be. If we want to become a CEO someday, we must live as a Student CEO in campus life. We should think, prepare, plan and live as an entrepreneur while pursuing graduation. We need a minimum number of years to establish a brand successfully or to write a book with bestseller status or make some short films to get ready for a feature film. There is a myth that we grow the most in their weakest areas through training. The fact is that we grow the most in our natural talents. If successful professionals were students when they were young, students can also reach those heights in campus life. There are criticisms on our way of living but if we overlook some of the factors we can see the bright side of our behaviors and talents. This generation of students happens to possess an extreme liking for managing things in their own way which is definitely effective. We should know what we want before others say it to us. Are we afraid to dream; because of the uncertainty of success? Are we afraid to dream; because of the doubt on our own competencies in chasing the dreams? Edouard Pailleron, French Poet and Dramatist said, “Have success and there will always be fools say that you have talent”.
Professional Attitudes of Generation Z Students
Students born on or after 1995 are Generation Z. This generation is distinct and unique from the previous generations in many ways. We do not prefer to work in any company for a long time. Every 2 to 3 years, we want to switch to a new company. Whatever we see today around is the invention and discovery of previous generations. Our characteristics are unique to the digital age we belong to. We have a myriad of opportunities which hereto was limited to a selected few. The dawn of the century has brought new challenges regarding the nature of the job and the role of this generation of students. Finding meaning in work has become a new norm in achieving inner satisfaction leading to stability in the job and reducing frequent job changes as the career goal overlap with that of the inner calling. The 21st century is an era of unimaginable inventions. Everyone is a part of this era has knowingly and unknowingly contributed a great deal to its advancement. Generation ‘Z’ students have shown extreme talent in various fields. There is not even one area which they have not yet mastered or to start at a lower level explored. Be it a field of management, for instance, students are coming up with various ideas to hit the stock market right where it will hurt the most, they are creating new ways to economize our country, working every stone they can to make it into an idol. When it comes to science students, they are carving their ways tremendously by looking up for things that they have never ever heard of. Well if they step out of academics they are likely to see their generation has taken hold of our media, students writing blogs, YouTubers imparting social messages through videos.
Potential Talents of Generation Z
John C Maxwell explained how talents are influenced by 13 key choices such as Belief, Passion, Initiative, Focus, Preparation, Practice, Perseverance, Courage, Teach-ability, Characteristics, Relationship, Responsibility, and Teamwork. Possession of these choices will make anyone a talent-plus person. Talent is a gift given by God and that should be celebrated. Roderic Gray in his book, “A Climate of Success” added that “Wanting things to be better is an excellent starting point. The will to improve is contagious.” Philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Talent for talent sake is just a decoration and a show. Talent working with a joy in the cause of society lifts the possessor to a new power as an angel”.
There are various meanings related to the concept of talent. In Latin talent is known as Talentum, which signifies that it is linked to intelligence. It is also referred to as natural aptitude or skill. Talent is generally associated with the inner ability of an individual, but it can also be stimulated and enhanced with practice and training. It also considered as the brainpower or the ability of a person to learn things easily and quickly. Thus, even though talent refers to an individual’s natural flair, it can also be managed to develop incredibly by talented individuals. Be it an academic or non-academic dream, the existence of certain competencies is common to actualize dream career choices. After all, nothing is bigger than us. Potential talents will take us wherever we want to be. We should go to the next level by multiplying and maximizing our talents to improve the world around us to progress. Equip yourself is a mantra I want to impart, inject in your mind and heart.
