The author of this novel is not a Dalit. He belongs to the forward community. When he was teaching in a Teachers’ Training Institute, 50% of his students were Dalits. He had a soft corner for them and took measures to improve their English learning skills. Even now when he happened to meet them elsewhere in the city, they recognize him, recall his help and tell that they are well off as teachers in schools. In his career, the author had listened to their life stories in private chats. When in his State, Dalits were murdered for loving upper caste girls, he thought of penning this novel. This novel highlights their problems. He has also tried to expose the darker side of the academic institutions in this novel as well.

Ananthasairam Rangarajan

Ananthasairam Rangarajan was born in 1946 and after graduating from college, his penchant for teaching fetched him degrees in Education from University of Madras. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in the teaching of English from Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages, Hyderabad. His career as a teacher in various capacities spread over three decades in many institutions, and Dr. Radhakrishnan Award for Best Teacher was bestowed on him by Tamil Nadu Government in 1997. His stint in institutes under different roles made him write this novel. Ananthasairam has been writing in Tamil since 1967. Leading Tamil magazines have published his short stories and articles. His Tamil book on how to talk in English in the form of a narrative (English Pazhagalam Vanga) is now available as eBook. A voracious reader as he is, he spends his retired life listening to music and writing for magazines.
