Bhagavad Gita - My (a Commoner's Viewpoint)

Author Name: Gorti Visweswara Rao | Format: Paperback | Genre : Religion & Spirituality | Other Details

Do we know a truth – the secret of our lives? It is our mercurial mind that ties us to everything that we do or imagine to do. You try to control the mind and its deputies, the indriyas (sensory organs), and you attain success at any stage in this short life. A success, let us not measure in terms of a materialistic gain only. Bhagavad Gita was originally scripted in Sanskrit – the language you and I may not know – and it is a reservoir of divine truths. Is a language really a barrier for us? No. Let us imagine ourselves to be on the vast shore of an ocean eagerly and hungrily picking up pebbles of knowledge to unravel the mystery of this life – particularly of our life in human form – through this Gita, the song of the unknown Creator of this beautiful world.

The author is a commoner in a perfect sense, specifically with regard to philosophical aspects. The bitter truth is that he is not even familiar with Sanskrit in which language Bhagavad Gita was scripted by sage Veda Vyasa. By God’s grace, these stand as no deterrents for the author to develop an unstinted liking towards Bhagavad Gita, a search engine that drives a person towards unravelling herself/himself and getting input to lead a purposeful life. It is the be-all and end-all of a person in pursuit of knowing the true value of her / his existence in this world.

God is everywhere, and it does not matter whether one stays in the forest as an ascetic or lives as a householder – as one learns from the dohe (nos. 61 and 62, Dohawali) of Goswami Tulasidas. This is the perception that the author has striven hard to bring out in this book, Bhagavad Gita – my (a commoner’s) viewpoint. This, he has done in the backdrop of a lot of inhibition and also doubts about his eligibility to pen his viewpoint on such a sublime subject. Of course, one solace for the author is that the book is not on preaching but on stating his viewpoint.
