Gentlemen Stories from London

Author Name: Vimal Chander Joshi | Format: Paperback | Genre : Literature & Fiction | Other Details

Gentlemen is a piece of fiction that tells the story of Ajay Vashishth, a young man from Delhi who came to London like thousands of others. He stayed in different parts of London including Bexleyheath, Ilford, Southall and Golders Green. The story uncovers several dimensions of travel and even goes beyond it, while it showcases the English capital through the eyes of a middle-class Indian.

His experiences revolve around the daily struggles of an Asian immigrant. He makes conscious efforts to expand his social circle — and in the process, he meets a plethora of interesting people such as a businessman from Tamil Nadu, a young Oxonian from Lincolnshire, a graceful young woman from Ilford, a British-Asian psychiatrist working for NHS and a retired doctor from Uttar Pradesh. He undergoes an array of sweet and bitter experiences which include an untoward mugging incident, a day trip to Bletchley Park, a visit to a popular Indian restaurant and to the famous Gurdwara of Southall.
