It is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 17.9 % between 2013 and 2019 and reach USD 32.5 billion in 2019.
Destination choice was considered the most important factor behind the decision to travel to other states and/or countries for obtaining medical treatment. Research has concluded that various pre-purchase and post-purchase factors play important roles in the destination choice decision-making process.
The two main objectives behind writing this book were to study the perceptions of medical travelers regarding various destination choice decision-making factors and the state of Gujarat as a destination for medical tourism and to identify the important factors behind medical service providers moving towards Gujarat.

The author Dr. Nirav R. Joshi obtained his Ph.D. from RK University, M.B.A. from Shri Chimanbhai Patel Institute of Management and Research, B. Pharm. from S. S. Patil College of Pharmacy, Diploma in Labour Laws and Practices from Siddharth Law College, and Diploma in Strategic Human Resource Management from Mahatma Gandhi Labour Institute.
He has seven years of industrial work experience and more than nine years of academic experience. He has published many papers in internationally reputed journals and has attended several seminars and workshops at both the national and international levels. During his time in academia, he has made a name for himself and won several awards for his research and presentations.
His career objectives are to enhance his academic knowledge, build strong bonds with students through teaching, and develop a fulfilling career in the management field.
