With the coronavirus spreading rapidly across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States, countries have taken swift and decisive actions to mitigate the development of a full-blown pandemic. In the past few months, there have been multiple announcements suspending attendance at schools and universities. As UNESCO estimated that over 421 million children are affected due to school closures announced or implemented in 39 countries. Besides, another 22 countries have announced partial "localized" closures. These risk-control decisions have led millions of students into temporary 'home-schooling' situations. Online courses are offered for many students in many institutions, but not all. There are issues with the assessment and accreditation of learning outcomes, even for those with online learning opportunities. Indeed the outbreak forced a leap into alternative approaches to learning with the integration of technology and artificial intelligence. Therefore this project finds and describes the educational approaches adopted by different countries during the Covid-19 pandemic situation and discusses the smart technologies used. Moreover, it highlights the limitations of online education approaches and proposes avenues for future research.
