leading to the destined graveyard, woes of womb and rebirth and pining for what
is naught in the quest of fortunes; shadow of misery follow us even after death
beyond self, the painful tears of others lead us, with soothing effects, to the
hidden mysterious universal truth of the saddest span of life.
composition, transpired on the ghats of holy ganges, is a tribute to the
unsung, forgotten, unwept and unknown beings of the earth.
Born after the
sudden death of his father in 1938, Dr N.M. Gupta was brought up by his mother
in a tiny village of district Etah, Uttar Pradesh. After graduation from Agra
University, he post-graduated in English and Hindi from Agra and Aligarh
Universities respectively. In 1960, he was appointed as a teacher at Inter
College and based on his research credentials, he was eventually appointed at
G.B. Pant College, Kachla, Badaun(UP). It is here he spent his time by the
deserted ghats of Ganges putting together this literary work. He retired in
1998 as a Reader at P.G. College Ganj Dundwara, Etah and continues to travel
between his ancestral home and Delhi.
