Leela Gour Broome

Leela Gour Broome’s first short story was published when she was fourteen. Between 1970 and ’79 she lived as a planter’s wife on South Indian tea estates. An accomplished pianist, she has decades of experience working with children. In 1990 her husband and she launched one of the first residential nature and environment education camps for children in India and became role models for several camp groups across the country. They are active environment conservationists and their beautiful farm is a haven for resident and migratory birds, some animals, past campers, instructors and their families. She has published numerous short stories, a series of pun cartoons, and a cartoon strip for a children’s magazine. Two of her books—Flute in the Forest for 12+ and Red Kite Adventure for children of 10+ have been published. She loves reading, and conducting story-telling sessions at schools and book-related events at lit fests. She is an active member of a book club, enjoys spending time with her three grandchildren, nature, arts and crafts, travel, and photography.
