The concept has been discussed and finds reference right from ancient literature dating back to early Greek philosophers like Socrates (469-399 BC), his student Plato (427/428-348/347BC), and Aristotle (384-322 BC) and stays on the radar of researchers and policy makers until today. Aristotle had written about the nature of happiness and what people require in order to have ‘a good life’. The concept of QoL still holds a strong place in psychological studies, social research as well as policy-making because the various national and international bodies – like World Health Organization, United Nations, and many others, have a strong focus on improving the QoL of the people. The book is a comprehensive compilation of the large number of definitions of QoL, multiple underlying theories, various concepts, derivative models, how QoL is essentially linked with the UN’s SDGs, and the crucial global rankings used for international comparative analysis of QoL. Dr. Kasturi Shukla
Dr. Kasturi Shukla is a Bachelor in Hospital Administration and Master in Hospital Administration from Devi Ahilya University, Indore (MP) and completed her Ph.D. (Doctorate) from the Department of Pediatrics, King George’s Medical University, Lucknow in the year 2012. Her six-year long doctoral research work was related to Measuring Health-Related Quality of Life in adolescent population, results of which were published through original research articles in national and international journals which are widely cited. She was awarded a Senior Research fellowship from I.C.M.R, New Delhi for her research work and was awarded the Vice Chancellor’s Gold Medal for the Best Ph.D. Thesis-2012 from King George’s Medical University, Lucknow. Presently, she is an academician with a keen interest for research in social sciences and is a Life Member of prestigious bodies like the Consortium of Healthcare Organizations (CAHO) and Academy of Hospital Administration (AHA), India. With more than 15 years of experience in the industry and academia, she has been publishing original research articles in journals of national and international repute in addition to many published conference proceedings. Apart from hospital management and healthcare quality, her core research interest includes Quality of Life with a higher emphasis on Health-Related Quality of Life and Work-Related Quality of Life. She is on the review board of some of the most reputed health journals.
