The Pawn

Author Name: Punit Patel | Format: Paperback | Genre : Literature & Fiction | Other Details

Like every other town, Scandicci too has its story. In fact, there are multiple stories woven around the web of lies, deceit, hate and, above all, vengeance. All these stories revolve around one particular person, Dimas Romero, a drug dealer who considers himself a tyrant. Among these stories, one involves an orphan boy named Logan who leads an ordinary life. A change of events take place after the mysterious disappearance of Dimas, and Logan has to get himself involved, because of his love Abigail, who happens to be Dimas’ wife.

A murder is suspected and the suspects are numerous. It becomes really hard for the police to determine the culprit from among a gardener, an angry father, a madman, a lover, a wife, a revengeful neighbor and a person who has lost his love. Upon interrogation, they all have only one thing to say, “I would have killed him if given the opportunity.”

As the story unfolds, it reveals many long lost secrets which provide an even stronger motive for each of the suspects. Amidst this chaos, it becomes a challenge for Logan and Abigail to prove their innocence and fight for their survival.

Punit Patel

Being an avid reader from a very young age, nothing excited Punit as much as a new story. He used to narrate stories that he had read, to his friends who didn’t like reading. It was this practice of his that worked as the inception of his drive towards storytelling. Punit believes that storytelling doesn’t require any particular age; at different ages, you have different stories to tell and it is not your age that determines the quality of your story – it is determined by how you choose to tell it.

Punit is currently 21 years of age and he has just completed his bachelor’s in engineering. The Pawn is his debut novel. He admits himself as an amateur in the field of story writing, yet he has confidence in his work and he also feels that people his age would surely love his murder mystery. He feels that he is blessed to have such parents who showed constant support for his book and never doubted his ability.

He strongly feels that one should never suppress one’s dreams. And that is why he says, “Dream passionately so that you have something to wake up for.” Punit believes in his own motto – ‘A reader “reads” what he reads, but a reader “thinks” what a writer wants him to.’
