Born of Bengali parents, he grew up in Shillong amidst the most idyllic surroundings. He grew up in a boarding school away from home, and so, he always yearned for the love and care which he missed as a child. His life remains the primary source of inspiration for his book. He has flirted with death, read voraciously, lost and recovered his faith, experienced the pain and pleasure of love and experiments with cooking. Undoubtedly, he is an excellent cook.
