“My Dad, My Hero”

One day, in CADP hospital, there was a woman named “mommy Med” alongside with her partner “daddy Ben”. The two were in the hospital because mommy Med was pregnant and was about to give birth. Luckily it was a baby boy and they named him “Bong”. However, things suddenly took a turn when the doctor had to give the sad news to the parents that their baby boy has a disease called “polio” meaning that he will be paralyzed for the rest of his life. But they weren’t upset. They were still grateful because Bong is still alive.

Bong lived in a peaceful neighborhood with his parents and grandfather. But their life was rough but Bong was still able to study properly. However, people tease Bong because of his paralysis, but it didn’t stop him from being the person he wants to be. But life is still hard for him. But he always reminded himself that his friends and family was always there to support him. And one of those friends was Sonny. He was always there for Bong during his hard times.

Bong also had a liking to play basketball. And one afternoon, he decides to go a basketball clinic to be taught how to play. However, the coach doesn’t want to teach him due to his condition. So the coach refused to teach him. “You are not qualified to play basketball I mean look at yourself! You can’t even walk!” said the coach. “But coach have some consideration please!” Bong pleaded. “NO! you will never have a chance at basketball!” said the coach.

When he arrived home he said “MOM! DAD! Yes son?” said the parents. “The coach said I am not qualified to play basketball.” Bong said. “Son, don’t believe in such things.” said mommy Med. “You’re right mom! I’ll practice on my own and get good at basketball!”. “That’s the spirit kiddo!” said daddy Ben. Bong, now encouraged goes and watch a basketball game on television. The next day, Bong practiced his shooting at a nearby court. However, it was hard for him to shoot but he didn’t stop because he was determined to learn basketball. When he arrived home, he shared the news at dinner table he is slowly improving on how to play.

After dinner he went to bed dreaming about his future and that it will all go well. The next day he goes to school and tells Sonny that he is improving and that he has high hopes on, getting better. Suddenly, a student mocks Bong and reminds him that he can’t walk. Bong now gets discouraged but his friend stands up for Bong and says “Let him do what he wants”.

Later, Bong goes back to the court. So he takes a tricycle to the court. But when he arrived, he saw a person at the basketball court. To his surprise, it was the coach he met not too long ago. So Bong decides to ignore the coach and goes back home since there wasn’t any other court in the neighborhood. When he arrived home, he was surprised by his friends and family. Bong forgot it was his birthday and he thanked everyone. Then, mommy Med and daddy Ben came with a gift for Bong to open. So Bong received it and he started to open the gift. When he opened it, Bong was so happy because it was a set of cars.

After the party, Bong goes and reviews for the upcoming quiz tomorrow so that he can be prepared for the quiz. So Bong reviews for a couple of hours because the teacher said the quiz will be somewhat difficult. So Bong reviews the subject thoroughly before going to bed. The next day, Bong wakes up early to prepare for school. After breakfast, he goes and prepares his pens, notebooks and the books according to the subjects for that specific day. He also brought, money with him for his transportation and food. When he took a bath, he dresses up and prepares his bag for easy access. After the quiz, the teacher checked his paper. When Bong received his paper back he actually scored very high. After class, Bong came home but to his surprise, Sonny was already waiting for Bong.

Bong asked, “why are you here? Sonny answered. “to hangout”. When Bong heard what Sonny said he starts getting his toy cars to play with. Sonny also prepared a race track for the toy cars to race. While the two were having fun, Bong

grandfather was watching them, happily. When the sun was setting, Bong and Sonny cleaned up their race track and put them away. When they finished cleaning, the two decided to clean up the rest of the mess on the lawn. So that mommy Med doesn’t have to clean up. After that, Sonny leaves to go home. When night arrived, Bong ate dinner with the family while having nice conversations with each other. After dinner, Bong goes to bed so mommy Med decided to sing a nice lullaby to put Bong to sleep. The next day was the weekends. So Bong and Sonny would go to the fields together to fly their kites. And the two would sometimes fish for food in the river. The two would also have even more fun because they would also jump in the fresh body of the water.

After all those, suddenly mommy Med comes to Bong to share the bad news that were running out of budget. So Bong and Sonny think very carefully on a good solution. Then, the two thought about selling yema. So mommy Med agreed and made yema for the two to sell. They both set up a booth to sell. They are surprised, since people in the neighborhood loved it. It was so good that they sold every last piece.
mommy Med was so happy that all of it was sold. And that they have more than enough money for their budget. So the two gave the money to her she puts the money in the bank afterwards.

Later, Bong and Sonny found out that there was a final exam at their school so Bong and Sonny cleaned up the stand and started to review for the final exam. As they were reviewing, Bong could not help but imagine his future about getting a job and helping his family. As the sun was setting, Sonny decided to sleep at Bong’s house so he went back to his home, brought clothes with him, and asked permission from his parents. When Sonny’s parents gave approval of sleeping over, he went to Bong’s house just in time for dinner. So Sonny decides to eat with and have a nice chat with the family. Bong and Sonny finished dinner early so they went upstairs to the bedroom and Bong said “hey Sonny, we have so much vacant time!

Let’s review for our final exam!”. “Good idea! If we keep on reviewing, we’d be able to pass the final exam and graduate” said Sonny.

So Bong and Sonny started reviewing till’ 8’oclock after that, they went to bed. The next morning, Bong and Sonny wake up early so that they can prepare and get to school. They ate breakfast, took a bath, dressed up and left by tricycle. When the two arrived, they started reviewing while class is not starting yet, when class started, Bong and Sonny were confident while they were answering the questions on
the examination paper. When they finished answering, they passed the paper and wait for the results. A week later, to their surprise Bong and Sonny passed! Meaning they will graduate soon. When they graduated, Bong and Sonny had jobs and have to separate to work on their life. Sonny become a mechanical engineer while Bong became a businessman and a financial advisor.

One day in LTO , Bong meets a woman named “Arlene”. They fell in love with each other. They get into a relationship together. And Bong decides to propose to her, and she happily said yes. They have a nice life and the couple decided to have kids. And Arlene gave birth to two kids named “Boyee and Myel”

Honestly, despite my father’s condition he can still have a normal life as a person. He can do things like have a job, be also a business holder, be able to drive, be able to have a family and most importantly, being able to live
In the end, Im lucky to have a dad like him. Because he will always be my hero.
