What happens when u have a crush on your colleague?
The answer is that u constantly catch yourself glancing at them and smiling to yourself.
This was the case with Soumya who has had a crush on her colleague Abhimanyu for the past year. She often wonders what it would be like if they got together but she is too scared of making things awkward hence she is just content with writing her silly little stories with him as a muse.
As her daily routine Soumya greets everyone with a smile and sits down at her cubicle. As soon as she is settled she not so subtly tries to look at Abhimanyu’s cabin and is disappointed when she sees no one sitting there. She turns around startled by a tap on her shoulder, only for her to find Abhimanyu with a dazzling smile.
“Hi Soumya, Good morning!” Abhimanyu greets with a smile
“Hi Abhimanyu, Good Morning!” Soumya replies while trying her best to remain calm
“Just wanted to come and greet you. Have a good day, if u need me for anything just message I will immediately help you” he says with a smile
“Yeah u too Abhimanyu” Soumya replies with a small smile hoping it conceals her nervousness
As soon as he leaves, she tries to calm her racing heart by taking a few deep breaths whilst keeping her hand on her chest, then she tries to think if she said anything weird during their conversation.
Unbeknownst to her, Abhimanyu turns subtly to look at Soumya after settling down at his cubicle and chuckles when he sees her deep in thought with a cute expression on her face, shaking his head with a smile he turns back to complete his work for the day.
At the end of the workday, Soumya leaves for the day with one last look at Abhimanyu and as soon as she reaches her house she freshens up .After freshening up she sits in front of her computer and then proceeds to continue writing her novel while losing herself in the world of fiction.
After some time she gets a call, and she picks it up and puts it on speaker without even looking at the caller
“Hello, who is this?” she asks distractedly
“hey Soumya, it’s me Abhimanyu” When Abhimanyu’s voice fills the room she gets startled and looks at her phone with wide eyes
“Hello Soumya? , You there?” his voice cuts through her shock and she responds to him after taking a deep breath
“Hey Abhimanyu, yeah I am here”
“Can we talk right now or are you busy?” he asks hesitantly
“Yeah, what happened?” Soumya says with a gentle voice sensing his hesitation
he takes a deep breath and after a moment of silence he continues hesitantly.
“can we meet? I want to tell u something”
“now?” Soumya looks at the time to see that it is 7:30
“yeah, I am downstairs. can we talk for just 5 minutes, please”
“wait what do u mean downstairs, are u outside of my apartment” Soumya immediately gets up and runs to the balcony to check if it's true.
“yeah, I am. I just had to talk to you so I came without prior notice, sorry” Leaning on her balcony railing she searches for him and finds him standing by his bike with one of his hands behind his back holding something.
“you are actually here” Soumya states dumbly to which he looks up at her and waves his hand.
“give me 5 minutes, I will be down,” Soumya says ,still shocked.
She immediately runs to her room and checks on her appearance after being satisfied she heads down after giving herself a pep talk.
Soumya’s heartbeat raises with every step she takes toward him and when she finally reaches him, she feels like her heart is in her throat, she wipes her sweaty hands on her pajamas and gives him a small smile which he returns.
“so u wanted to talk about something” Soumya asks Abhimanyu while prompting him to talk with a curious yet nervous expression
Taking a deep breath Abhimanyu asks cautiously, “What do u think of me?”
“I think you are a nice, kind, loving and hardworking individual so yeah I like you,” Soumya says after a moment of hesitation, unsure of why this question is even asked in the first place.
“thank you” he beams at my words, He looks at me expectantly and asks” Won't you ask me what I think of you?”
“what do u think of me?” Soumya asks half confused and half curious
“I think you are generous, hardworking, extremely intelligent and a great person to hang out with” he steps a little bit closer to Soumya and continues “and I also think you are gorgeous inside out, and I really like you Soumya,” he says with a dazzling smile and for a few seconds Soumya just stares at him and when she processes what he just said she is dumbfounded and just stares at him for few seconds without blinking.
“u like me?” she asks nervously after recovering from her initial shock.
“Yeah”
“as a friend?”
“no, as a woman. As a will u be my girlfriend kind” he then gives her flowers and chocolates with a smile
“Really?” Soumya asks while glancing at the flowers in his hand and then at him
“Really,” Abhimanyu answers with a patient smile, coming to her senses Soumya smiles widely and hugs him
”I like you too” Soumya confesses
Abhimanyu is surprised by her action but quickly recovers and hugs her back, she then pulls back to look at him and freezes when she sees how close their faces are to each other.
Abhimanyu looks into her eyes and whispers “Can I ?” and Soumya nods with a shy smile ,their faces slowly inch towards each other when she suddenly hears a faint voice in the background calling her name choosing to ignore she starts to inch even more when Abhimanyu suddenly catches by her shoulders “Wake up”
“What?” she asks in a confused state
“wake up Soumya” he repeats and she wakes up with a start and looks around to see that she is sleeping on the desk and beside her is her roommate Rupali standing with her arms crossed
“I have literally been shouting for ages, which dreamland were u lost in?,” Rupali asks annoyed but Soumya is still in her dazed state and when she looks at the computer screen she sees that the last scene she wrote was the scene where the main characters were about to kiss.
“what do u mean it was a dream” She stands suddenly clutching her hair with a frown
“what dream?” Rupali asks with a frown on her face
“the one with my crush where he literally proposed to me” She turns to Rupali with a sad expression on her face
Rupali hugs Soumya while giving some comforting pats on her back ,then tells her to get ready for the day and leaves the room
Soumya dejectedly closes the story and goes to get ready when she gets a message from someone, she decides to ignore but another ping message comes through. with a frown on her face, she goes to check and sees that Abhimanyu has messaged
she then pinches herself hard just to check if it is real or not.
"ow, okay. definitely not a dream", she mumbles to herself and then proceeds to read the messages
“can we talk today ?”
“I have something to tell you”
Her face lights up as soon as she reads the texts and she replies to him with a yes and she then goes to get ready for the day with a smile on her face while thinking to herself that her dream might actually become a reality.
