Submitted to Contest #2 in response to the prompt: 'Write a story about your character finding a mysterious message hidden in an old book.'

I was alone at home that night. The wind was blowing, and the light was flickering, and I was wondering what to do. All of a sudden, a book from my room's bookshelf fell down, perhaps due to the powerful wind that was blowing, and perhaps the glass of the almirah was already open. The sound of the book falling caught my attention, and I took the book in my hand, which had fallen on the floor. I had nothing to do, so I chose to read the book. I was surprised that it was nameless and authorless. Nothing was mentioned on the cover page, and there was no image indicating what the book was about. I sat on the reading chair and opened the first page. My first reaction was one of wonder. I saw an old man inside the page asking, begging me to help him, literally doing movements with folded hands.

Before I could think anymore, I was automatically dragged into the book, inside that page. As my journey began, I landed in an era that looked ancient. I saw that I was brought to a village. Everything was natural, and the air was fresh. I started experiencing the surroundings. Suddenly, the old man appeared in front of me, whom I had seen in the book begging. He again started crying and begging for help. I asked him to stop crying and inquired about the matter.

He took me to a secret place where I saw a young girl, a young boy, and a little girl, and everyone looked tense. The old man told me that their village was in big trouble. A magician, called Ranga, had hypnotized all the villagers, including their king, except these four. And he was searching for them to make them slaves. The young boy looked very angry and wanted to fight, but the young girl requested him to keep his cool, addressing him as her brother, saying that anger makes one a fool.

I asked them how and why I had entered the book's story, which seemed real. The old man replied that only a person with a pure heart and sharp mind could fight against Magician Ranga. Both these qualities together were rare, and he told me that as I helped them become free, I would be automatically sent back home. Everyone started requesting me, except the young boy, who looked a bit arrogant. The young girl introduced everyone to me; her name was Noor, and she was shining like a diamond. The little girl was Sweety, Noor's brother was Aftab, and the old man was Ramu Kaka. I assured them that I would help.

I went from the secret place to make some plans by observing Magician Ranga and his powers. For two days, the people in the secret place didn't get any news about me. While hiding and watching outside, Aftab got news that I had also become a victim of Ranga's hypnosis. That night, I reached the secret place and told them that I wasn't hypnotized; I was just acting to be a slave to reach Ranga's stick, in which all his powers were. Noor looked impressed and attracted towards me, and I started liking her too.

But, oh no! My talking was overheard by the slave king, who, along with the other hypnotized group, caught all of us and presented us in front of Ranga. Ranga, after knowing the truth, asked me to pray to God for my life because he wasn't going to hypnotize me but kill me. My mischief was not forgivable, he added. He wanted everyone to be his slave, and whoever seemed like a blockage to his agenda, he would kill them simply.

I argued that "what's the meaning of making people slaves, taking undue advantage of power? History will remember you as a villain, but if you use your power to help people, history will remember you as a hero." He replied, "First, let me make you history," and to kill me, he moved his stick towards me. But then, some powerful force came towards me, and Noor came in between, and that power struck Noor. As it happened, I shouted "Noor!" Surprisingly, my eyes opened, and I was confused and shocked that it was all just a dream. I could not believe and could not understand what had happened or not happened .

I drank water and learned two things from the dream: why one should try to rule the world? If one has some power, they should use it to help people, not to rule. And the second thing I learned is that most of the time, we live in imagination, not in reality. We create hypothetical stories in our minds. Most of our fears are imaginary; we should drop them and live freely.
