“Goodbye son! Don’t worry we’ll be home soon.” My father said when he and my mother were going to see a new couch. Apparently our couch was broken so my parents were going to the sofa showroom to buy a new couch.
“If you feel hungry, just call us through your phone and we will order some snacks for you. And remember- don’t open the door for anyone.” My mother said. I was watching television sitting on a plastic chair. “Yeah come soon as its night anyway, who knows what could happen?” I told them. They left and I was watching a movie in the television.
A couple of hours passed by, it was already 22:00hrs. It was dinner time yet my parents weren’t home. I tried calling my mother.
“Hello, hello! Mom are you there?” I kept my mouth as close as I could to my phone microphone. There was a lot of static noise in the phone and then the phone disconnected itself.
“I’ll try calling Dad”
I put the phone on speaker so I could hear. “Hello! Dad! When are you coming home?” Yet all I could hear was only static and buzzing noises from my phone.
Just then the power went off, but luckily we had an UPS (power back-up). Our UPS wasn’t powerful enough to run the the television, so I had to switch it off. Now without the television, I was just staring at the floor and the roof.
I thought to ask my neighbour’s phone to call my parents. I tried ringing their doorbell but they didn’t answer. “Where is everyone today?” I thought.
The UPS’s battery was draining fast. It was already 23:00hrs. I had to warm something for dinner just to eat as I was getting hungry. There was only silence in this house, except the humming of the UPS.
At this point, I was getting scared with nobody at home, no power supply, no neighbours, no one to contact.
I had some sandwich to eat and was brushing my teeth when I heard heavy downpour outside. And that’s when I heard this strange knock.
“Tap, Tap, Tip, Tap”
My mother said not to open the door so I just screamed-
“Who is it?”
No response
“Who is outside the door?”
Still no response
I looked through the peep hole, no one was there.
I wanted to open the door and shout to the kids who were probably pranking me, but then a thought stroke me.
“Which kid is pranking me in the middle of the night?” I thought.
Now I was spooked, no kid would prank me at this time. I tried calling my father again but as usual there was this buzzing noise in the phone. This time it was weird. The buzzing sounded like words, trying to frame sentences.
“I *bzz* can*bzz**bzz* see you”
Then there was this loud static noise like you would hear in the 90’s television cranked up to the full volume but then the call got disconnected itself.
I was sweating, even in the coolness of the outside rain. I didn’t want to move. The plastic chair looked like a nice place to spend the night. I was too scared to go to the bedroom. I just wanted my parents to be back.
“Dear” a slow whispering voice said around me.
The power supply was fluctuating. The UPS was struggling to keep the lights alive. The fluctuation made the living room lights to flicker. Then I saw a big lighting strike making false daylight, disturbing the cars nearby outside.
“Open the door”
The slow, whispering voice said. I didn’t want to open the door. My heart was literally beating out of my chest. I thought I could die of fear. Every lightning, my heart would skip a beat.
“Help!” I cried in fear thinking someone would help me. The lights kept on flickering.
The knocking started again
“Open the door” it said again now louder and clearer. I could hear footsteps and floorboards creaking in the bedroom.
The knocking was back. But now it was harsh like someone getting punched outside the door. Then, it stopped, after sometime I saw some blackish, red liquid flowing through the hinges of the door.
“Blood?”
Suddenly the UPS alarm went off to indicate low battery. Lights flickered more. Then I heard loud screeching noises on the wooden door. It sounded like a nail being scratched on the wooden surface. The scratches made words-
“You don’t want to do this”
Then I heard my name being called from outside the door. I had enough. I went to open the door.
There was no one outside, it was all dark. It was still raining. I screamed-
“Who was knocking the door?”
I looked around, and I saw a letter getting wet in the rain. I picked it up and I read it.
“Sorry to say, but your parents are dead. In fact, this whole neighboured is just filled with dead bodies. You have no one here. But one killer monster.”
I was like-
“What?”
I turned around, and I saw this horrifying creature. It walks on four limbs, had razor sharp nails as long as pencils, it had glowing red eyes.
It had stained red teeth. It had chunks of meat in between in them.
“Goodbye kid, we’ll miss you.” The creature whispered and ripped my head apart.
