The last thing I remember before walking up in the ice-cold pool was jumping into it after coming home from work.
I opened my eyes under water looking around. Suddenly I lost my breath and tried swimming up to the surface for air but my legs and hands were not moving. The panic set in as water rushed into my mouth. Then a spark felt in my right arm woke it up and I came to the water surface. As soon as I got out gasping for air, I shouted my wife Elenore’s name out in hope of her rescuing my semi- paralysed body out of the cold water. The pool had chunks of ice and dust floating on it. Not receiving anyone 's help I turned around to look for my sons near the backroom but the next thing I saw was house in crumbles.
The dad hormones might have kicked in and I pushed to the edge of the pool and got out. I crawled my way towards the house and shouted my son Tracy and Trevor's name at the top of my water filled lungs. When no one's answer came back I started crying there lying on the floor. I was paralysed and my family was missing. I didn't know which calamity had struck our peaceful city but whatever it was it destroyed everything precious to me.
After some time, my legs felt alive and I stood up. I climbed up the broken wall of the house and rushed to where my bedroom. No one was there except for the pants that I wore to the office that day. I put them on and decided to go out looking for rescuers or the police. The gate was of the house was blocked by the oak tree that had fallen on its way. Luckily a car had crashed into the wall of our house and I got out through the way and decided to head towards the city centre. Walking along the distance I saw cars that had crashed here and there and not a single dog on the street. There was always a bunch of dogs on Pansey Street. When I reached the city there was no one there. The stores where left wide open with no one in them. The cold outside was very unusual. In our city it was usually hot and had a perfect climate for which it was popular for. The cold was unbearable and with me being bare footed did not prove to be helpful. I went to the Owen's Middle School looking for survivors’ camp but it was also empty. Seeing all this send a shiver down my spine not knowing if I was an only survivor in our town. The fear made me run to the police station hoping for someone but I never reached there and collapsed on to the broken tar feeling tired and breathless. I closed my eyes and thought my life was a going to end here.
I woke up in a gym, to be specific a lady’s gym. I jumped out of where I was laid. It was not a bed or anything but instead a treadmill. A person wearing full winter gear came up to me and removed his mask. He was wearing a mask and a scarf. He handed me a bowl of red liquid substance and told me to eat up. I took the3 bowl and munched on it. It was not very tasty but it somehow worked. I introduced myself as Rowan Steel. He removed his mask revealing his human face and introduced himself as Wilbur, an engineer. He was a middle age man. Then another person walked in through the entrance with similar gear. He was Medal, a Hispanic named Julian. We bonded together fast. They explained to me what had actually happened.
The scientist from USESD had tried an experiment to use the full energy of the Sun but it failed badly and the Sun vanished out of existence within seconds. The Earth must have roamed as a rouge planted for 100,000 years before getting into a new Star system. The people around the world disappeared and only a few survived. The few who survived where just us 3 and we all where in water. I was in the pool; Wilbur was in a sauna and Julian was fishing and feel into the water. Wilbur and Julian woke up around a week ago and came to this town in search of help. They both meet and each other and became the 2 remaining survivors until I came through. They were happy to have me. They wanted to migrate after the snow fall had gone down a bit.
For the next few days, I learned their survival methods and adapted. They found a plant that bore red beans on whom they feasted. Wilbur and I became very close friends along the way. We even fixed up a car by taking a never-ending energy source from a new Government laboratory that they had started here. We used the energy source instead of the battery and fired up the car with petrol found in the same place. After the snow fall reduced, we decided to move to another close town. We loaded the things up in the car and started our journey. On the way we took a pee break for some time. When I went to pee, I saw someone far away in a shadow. I called them out and they rushed towards me. The feeling goes finding a new survivor was great until I realised that it wasn't a human. The person had reddish skin with long hands and feet. He used a taser gun on me and I fell unconscious.
I woke in a bed in a hospital. I jumped out of it this this. I looked around and saw out of the window another Earth like world. I was treated by the doctors and was given proper food. I protested at first but when I saw their nice behaviour I calmed myself down and cooperated with them. A nurse came in with a proper oxygen tank and mask and gave me two tablets to consume. After I ate them, she went out. Then I was bathed by a machine and was put in a long robe with golden and bronze embroidery and taken to the SNU (Segregated Nations Union). It was the UN of their planet and I met with the board. It consisted of 5 young looking members. They introduced me as the representative of our planet that they mentioned as 'Parasite 5117198- 8' and was being stared at by the council.
They introduced themselves as the heads of the planet who ruled on the combined lands all together. They explained to me that our planet had drifted into their star system's goldilocks zone and that we had disturbed them. They however were not angry with me. They spoke with a sense of calmness. They explained that our greed had made us star less and that we roamed around the Galaxy for almost 467,000 years and somehow by luck enter their star around a year ago. They were astonished that their where survivors on our planet and also were willing to help us, another intelligent species recover from the dust. The council promised me that they will give full support in rebuilding our planet if I could find the remaining survivors and bring them all together in one land. My mind was hopeful again and I agreed to the deal. The council proclaimed me to be the new ambassador of our planet that they recognised now as a sister planet named Earth.
I stayed in their planet for a month waiting for the snowy season on Earth to be over. I explored their culture and living style in luxury. After the storm had calmed down on our planet, they took me there with 5 army officers from their planet to find the rest. I landed on the exact place I left a month ago and started searching for them with a satellite they had set up for me. After some days we finally found my friend Wilbur and Julian but this time with 8 more new people which included children, women and 2 old people. They all were astonished and pumped to see me. Wilbur ran and hugged me and asked me if I was okay. I explained to all of them what had happened to me that day. Wilbur told me that he and Julian spend almost a day searching for me until they accidentally discovered this water park with a group of people living here.
Then the time came. I presented them the plan the aliens had offered. Most of them where excited to finally get some food while Julian didn't agree. Since the majority agreed we decided to build our new city with help of aliens here, near the water park, near my town since it had the best weather; at least used to in our solar system. I explained to the army guys that most survivors must be near huge water bodies and they set out with me to find them leaving Wilbur in charge with the rest of the people and the construction workers to build a new city.
I searched for days around the globe, not finding a single person on the radar. We found 12 more survivors and that to near my town. Something didn't feel right. Nobody else was found outside the 20-mile radius of my city. The aliens explained to me on a video call that our city had some special climate and geographic factors that protected us and froze us perfectly. According to them we were the lucky ones to survive as not many in the waster did survive either. I had no choice except to give up. I returned to our base disappointed but was happy to find a small city almost done with construction. The aliens had built us 26 small houses around the water park and provided us with food, electricity and fresh water. We were thankful to them and the builders went back. 3 army officers were stationed near our town to look after our needs. I was elected as the mayor even by the children and received the centre house in the city. I was provided all necessary equipment’s and other items to look after the new city. We could get any happier except for Julian who was yet angry at the aliens and me.
After about a month I received a notification from the council saying that the conditions on Earth were getting dire. The aliens put up a dome over our new town and sealed us in. When I talked with the council they explained to me that the air outside had turned poisonous due to nuclear waste being cleared from our planet and that we couldn't go out of the dome. Julian didn't believe it and rushed out of the door that the aliens had made for themselves to get in and out. I tried to stop him but he pushed me and rushed out. The alien guards did nothing. As soon as he got out, he started chocking and fell. I ran to bring him in but Wilbur caught my hand and stopped me. Julian died there on the ground. The guards turned to me and told me to look after and control my citizens. I got angry and shouted at them that they could have stopped them and that they didn't. I threw my coat of honour down on the land and said that I resigned. There was an audible gasp behind me and I could hear the child behind me cry. The guard picked up my coat and asked if anyone else wanted to be the mayor. Nobody rose up. As I was walking away the guard pulled me back and pressed the coat against my chest and shouted that I will be the mayor until the council decided. I grabbed it angrily and walked away.
I went into my cabin stressed. I didn't know what was happening outside and tried calling the council but no one answered. Wilbur opened the door and came in looking for me. I was angry at him for stopping me but he explained that he couldn't lose two friends in a single day. I hugged him and busted out crying. The last time I cried like this was when I found out that my family was missing. He consolidated me and told me about the time when he woke up in the sauna. He said that he was also shocked to see no one there and that he played near a huge anchor near his house for hours crying. When he mentioned about a hook near the place where he woke up, I was confused. I had gone to that place looking for more survivors but found no hook or anchor. He said that there was a huge chain going into the ground where he woke up. I took the tab that allowed me to look around Earth with the satellite. When I searched, I found nothing. Wilbur took the tab from me and zoomed into a huge hole near the place he woke up. The hole was now mostly filled with sand and on the satellite, I saw two aliens putting a huge man hole cover over it. The aliens for the first time where not wearing their mask and was roaming around freely without it. The supervisor who was standing there looking at the workers putting on the cover looked at his watch and looked straight at my satellite camera. He pressed a button and my tab lost its connection. A bad feeling went through my body. I rushed outside the house and saw two guards heading towards me. I took one of the oxygen tanks inside my cabin and put it one. I unplugged the fuse of the electric supply. Instead of running away from them I ran towards them. The guards paused for a moment seeing me run towards them. I ran as quick as possible and tackled them down and headed for the exit. The guard at the door took his taser gun out but before that I took out the emergency flare gun that I was expected to keep inside my pocket at all times for emergency and shout him at his face with that. He fell down and opened the door and rushed out. The guards behind me shut the door immediately and one of the rans behind me. I got into the space shuttle they used but suddenly it turned one and flew away.
I reached their planet in and landed. I got out of the ship alone and walked towards the airport building still with the oxygen mask. The guards rushed towards me and captured me. The removed my mask and suddenly I found it difficult to breathe and fell unconscious.
I woke up Infront of the SNU Council but this time in a dark setting. The revealed to me what actually happened. The aliens were the reason for our Sun's disappearance. They send their scientist to our planet as soon as they found out that our planet was habitable. They made a reactor in our city as it had the least climate fluctuation. With the reactor they destroyed our son and used the anchor to pull our planet into their star system for our resources. They were actually surprised to find survivors in the planet. The head person sitting in the centre said that we only survived because we were very near to the reactor. As they found half intelligent as them, they decided to help us pro create in a specially designed shelter and make our children their slaves. The changed the air composition of our Earth to theirs for them to breathe. That was why I was provided tablets the one time I came here so that I won't die. That tablet let me breathe in their air for around a month. When they revealed their whole plan, I turned sick. Julian was right, we were playing as their pawns in the chess game. I tried to react but they shut me up. The council called in a gladiator looking army officer and told him to tear me to pieces. Just as he took his axe out the door behind me was slammed open and the guard got tased. He fell down and the person tased the rest of the council before they could call for help. He untied me from my chains and grabbed me and ran. We ran out of the SNU office towards the park nearby.
Just after entering the park, we opened a man hole cover and climbed down and asked me to follow him. I also climbed down and he pressed a button closing the cover. He removed his mask and revealed himself as Lachlan, a scientist from SNU. He told me the history of their civilisation that how they pulled multiple planets into the star system since they lacked resources and destroyed other planets for their own need. Lachlan told me that we were the 8 planet that they have pulled into the system for their need. I couldn't trust him at first but he did indeed rescue me from being chopped down to pieces. He said that he wanted stop this crime of killing another planetary civilisation but they nobody cared. He told me that this species was the most dangerous one in the galaxy and only cared about themselves. He told that if we don't stop them that the entire galaxy would be destroyed of its wonderful lifeforms.
After some thinking I asked him whether we could not destroy their star and kill this civilisation to save the galaxy. He agreed but the problem was that our planet would also go rouge again and kill the rest. I said to him that anyway we are either going to die or turn into soul less slaves. I said to him that if we all take a dip into the water tank in our town, we could possibly survive the reactor blast again and wake up in some other star system if we turn lucky enough. Now even though he was convinced we had a problem. Lachlan said that there was no reactor on this planet to kill the star. I said that we had one near our town through which they destroyed our Sun. He said that he could make it work but the problem was that he did not have any fuel to charge it up. I told him that he could find all the resource he needs if he uses the petrol from the pump that was left safe. We settled on the plan. Lachlan said that he a small space pod that he bought for research purposes but the problem was it was parked inside the airport. Now it was time for a disguise
We went to the airport disguised as husband and wife. I took the role of the husband while he dressed up as the wife since he was shorter than me. Our plan almost worked until an officer saw my real skin colour through my mask. The guards surrounded us but me and Lachlan did not give up. We beat up a few guards and rushed towers the pod but when I got into it the pod beeped since it did not have enough fuel to carry two people. Lachlan almost gave up but I did not. I gave him Julian's watch that I kept in my pocket as a memory and told him to turn the reactor on and tell the people to rebel and hide in the water tank. The guards were almost behind me. Lachlan asked me what will I do. I told him that I had no one I loved in this world left so my life didn't matter to me anymore. Lachlan nodded his head and said to me to look out for the text and be prepared. I gave him a fist bump and ran. Lachlan started the pod and got away superfast and I ran towards the exit gate from the take-off field.
I removed my disguise and ran to a cloth store with just the face mask on. I robbed the store of some of its cloths and ran away. Now not only was the army but also the police and a shopkeeper was after me. I ran back to the park and put on the disguise and kept moving.
I soon reached the Kutai Bridge, a very high bridge in the Planet capital that was a tourist attraction. It was the best place to blend in but unexpected a familiar face popped up in front of me. The shopkeeper and the police. He recognised me by the cloths and pointed at me. As soon as I turned around to run, I saw the Gladiator army person with his axe breathing heavily ready to chop me to pieces. I knew that I was going to die eventually today. The gladiator ran towards me with full force swing his axe. I dogged it barely and ran towards the police. The police also ran as they saw the gladiator angry. Suddenly to my bad luck I tripped. My watch flew away and fell towards the corner. I ran to get it but the gladiator jumped on the bridge making it shake and I fell down again. Suddenly I saw a message pop up on my watch. I did not know what it was but I had a gut feeling that it was Lachlan. It had been around 5 hours since he left. The gladiator breathed heavily and walked towards me. The smile on his face was huge. He was going to swing his axe on me but I decided to jump off the bridge. I turned around and ran towards the end as he was swinging his axe. I jumped above the railing straight down. Suddenly I saw their star turn red bright. As I plunged into the river water their star also vanished for good. I closed him eyes underwater as I felt the water turn cold.
