It was a serene morning, and at the banks of the Ganga, everywhere could be seen the yajnas being performed, recital of prayers by the sages, and people taking a bath in the sacred river. The loud sound of temple bells, although loud, sounded very soothing to the ears and was echoing all over the place. The sages were enchanting hymns, and the rest of the people were busy with their normal morning work. The banks looked occupied, and most of the people roaming were busy reciting their morning prayers. In this bank, boats were too present and were being guided by the able rowers to various points nearby. The morning looked quiet, and it looked as though no place for complacency and negligence with oneself existed in the minds of the people present there. Pupils too were seen dressed in yellow – the holy color, roaming briskly, attending processions, and participating in the activities happening under the guidance of their teachers.
Such was the scene when Rohit arrived at the banks of the holy river. He was escorted by his family members, who were all there to offer their offerings to the deity as part of rituals carried out in the worship guided by the local priests. As they went to the banks of the river, they sat down beside the priests who were carrying out a detailed procession and started to recite after them the holy hymns.
One of the priests started to give a sermon to all of them. He said, “It is God who has given life to us, and it is our duty to give it back to god as a part of service to him and his greatness.” He continued with certain hymns in Sanskrit and then started to preach, “He is supreme and his status cannot be questioned by any of us. We have to move under his able patronage. To do so, we will have to release our whole body and soul from worldly desires to move under him. Such is faith, he will look upon us and grant us salvation from this cruel, torturous cycle of life and death. With this, let's pray for the Almighty to give us happiness and joy and allow us to live life in serenity and peace.”
With this, he stood up from his raised seat and raised his hand, and with him Rohit and all his family members too stood up with their folded hands. The priests signaled for the family to disperse now. All ritual and rites for the day were done now. They were more than satisfied with the way things had progressed. The head priest was standing tall among them and called Rohit’s brother to come to him. Rohit too was standing nearby. The priest whispered in the ear of his brother that he had seen things, and soon their family would be experiencing things beyond imagination. Rohit overheard the conversation but was quiet and also wondered, “What such things are about to happen that will change their life forever?
Rohit was thinking about the conversation when his personal cellphone ranged. He quite eagerly took out the phone from his pocket, it was from his office, he quietly picked up the phone and heard from the other side, “Congrats Rohit! You have been promoted, just heard the news from our boss who told me this thing while processing your papers. It is time to party man!” Rohit was thinking something when at the same time his father approached him and said, “Son! You are my best investment as if now and you look magnificent right now. I will do anything for you anytime and anywhere.”
Within minutes of overhearing the conversation between his brother and the priest he has received two good news, one from his office and the other the soothing words of his father. He was too excited but seems this was not the only good news, there were some other things coming too.
Rohit’s phone rang again. It was phone from his doctor. He was perplexed with the thought that, “What the Doctor wants from him now?” Quiet with anxiety he picked up the phone of the doctor and as he picked up, Doctor said, “Rohit! There is good news. Your wife is pregnant and soon you will be father.” Rohit just replied back saying thanks and then there were talks and soon the whole scenario looked so positive. Only an hour has passed since he overheard the conversation between head priest and his brother and already three good news have been communicated to him. It was like some miracle was happening to him. Three good news have already been heard by him and his family was ecstatic already. They all were still by the banks of the Ganges River. They were about to disperse when his brother received a message from his friend who was just passing by, “Your son has topped the examinations.” Rohit’s brother couldn’t believe his ears and was enthusiastic beyond doubt about the same. Everyone of his family had a smile on their face when they heard the news of their child topping the university examinations.
Three good news for Rohit and one for his brother and things were looking really bright from here. Still two hours have passed from the conversation Rohit overheard. Their family which comprised of their father and mother with two sons and a daughter with two grandchildren one to brother and other to the daughter. All were there at the bank of river Ganges. They were now heading towards their cars to move off. When the priest called Rohit’s brother again and said that whatever they have experienced today will now settle down for years to come and will shape up their future in the coming days. Rohit’s brother retorted he couldn’t understand what he said. Priest replied, “Whatever will happen today will be like a lifetime achievement for your family- once in a lifetime.”
Rohit looked satisfied and serene where as his family members too looked composed. They were heading back to their homes now by their cars and each of them felt complacent enough as they were heading back to their homes. What Rohit overheard has translated into good news for his family and himself.
Consequences of the conversations held were divine and exclamatory but the ramifications and truthiness behind the last conversation was yet to be experienced by him and his family.
