Submitted to Contest #1 in response to the prompt: 'Write a story about an underdog chasing an impossible dream. '

Detective.

She loved watching detective and spy movies as a kid. She always thought of becoming one. Was it possible or just a dream?

In every spy movie she watched, the detective was always a male who fought evil individuals but never died. Was it possible to never die when fighting more than fifty people alone?

But one day everything changed.

Congratulations. You're the head of the surgical department now. Keep working the way you have until now, and soon, you will be the world's best doctor, Siya.

ANNOUNCEMENT

EMERGENCY EMERGENCY

5 BULLET WOUNDS.

Siya ran through the corridor and saw a man in a black suit being brought to the hospital.

The doctor yelled, "Take him to the emergency room."

Nurse 1: But Sir...We have to wait for the police.

The Doctor (angrily): They will understand.

Siya: Doctor, do you need my help?

The Doctor: Yes, meet me in the emergency room.

Siya: Who is he?

The Doctor: Phillip Dellome.

Siya: The Detective Phillip Dellome.

Point of View: Siya

I never wanted to become a doctor. I wanted to be a detective, fighting evildoers who live in the shadows.

I thought is it possible to do two things at once?

Can I be a detective and a doctor?

Making my parents happy was one of the reasons I chose this profession. Seeing them happy made me happy. So I continued working hard.

But on that day, everything changed for me. Seeing a detective for the first time. Operating on him, removing the bullets one by one and thinking how difficult the job of a detective truly is.

Was it possible for me to become a detective?

THREE DAYS LATER...

Nurse 1: Doctor, Phillip Dellome has disappeared.

Siya: What are you saying, Where did he go?

Nurse 1: Doctor, I don't know. He was asleep when I went for my routine checking.

Siya: Call Doctor Suresh, and tell him his patient has disappeared. Also, tell the security guards to keep an eye on the exit. His wounds are not fully healed. What was he thinking? Did someone visit him?

Nurse 1: Well, no one in person but a phone call yesterday.

Siya: Did he talk to them?

Nurse 1: No... he was asleep. So the person on the other end told me to give him a message.

Siya: And... what was the message?

Nurse 1: The person said that he will visit tomorrow.

Siya: Since he has disappeared, maybe the person has already visited and taken him.

Nurse 2: Doctor, look at this... A Cheque...

Siya: Someone paid his bill too. But the amount...

Doctor Suresh: Well, that's Detective Dellome for you. Think of it as a thank you for saving him.

Siya: But Sir...

Doctor Suresh: Don't worry. He will be back here soon. The amount of times someone brings him to this hospital is greater than the procedures you've done in your life.

Siya: How is it possible? I have worked in this hospital for more than eight years and I never saw him once until three days ago.

Doctor Suresh: Well, this was the first time... Someone not from his family has brought him.

Siya: Family...

Doctor Suresh: Well, he has three children, two boys and one girl. His wife worked as a psychologist in this hospital. She joined him and could take the appearance of anyone in this building.

Siya: How do you know all this?

Doctor Suresh: I am their family doctor. I have operated on him since the horrific accident at his school.

Siya: Do you mean the fake ritual case?

Doctor Suresh: Yes, he was one of the first police officers who arrived on the scene. That's also the case that changed his life forever. Well, it's time for my...

Bullet Sound...

Blood on Siya's face...

Siya: Doctor Suresh... Doctor Suresh...

Siya: Grabs Doctor Suresh's Shoulder...

Another Bullet Sound...

Doctor Suresh falls.

Siya grabs Doctor Suresh's hands and drags him to a room.

THE ROOM...

Why... What's happening?

Why is someone trying to kill you, Doctor?

Doctor Suresh: Well... the.. there... is first... time... for... ever... every th... thing.

Doctor Suresh...

Nurse 1: Doctor Siya... Doctor Siya...

Nurse 2: Look... Blood

10 HOURS LATER...

Nurse 1: She is waking up.

Siya: Where am I? Doctor Suresh... Is he all right?

Nurse 2: Hospital Room.

Nurse 1: The other doctors tried their best but the blood loss...

Siya: So, Doctor Suresh... But... Why did that happen? Who did it?

Nurse 1: Detective Dellome and his wife came earlier and they said that they would find whoever did this.

Siya: Detective was here again.

Nurse 1: He said that this was the first time he came this months.

Siya: So... the person who was here... Who was he?

Nurse 1: Detective Dellome said that maybe someone is trying to kill every person close to him and whoever he is... killed one of his oldest friends.

Siya: Doctor Suresh...

Later that Night...

Siya (seeing herself in the mirror): I promise I will find out who killed Doctor Suresh and... and...

Part 1 ends...
