March, 23. Reena was up at six am in the morning, as she had to rush to her office immediately. Her office was located in the heart of the IT hub, in Kolkata. Her lavish office at Wipro was about to open at eight am in the morning. Preparing her meagre breakfast comprising a masala omelette and a cup of espresso coffee, Reena proceeded towards the aquamarine blue tabletop in the dining room. Carrying the china clay plates and tray in her hands, she kept it down on the tabletop and had her breakfast. She proceeded towards her bedroom and left for her office at seven sharp. Her blue chikankari kurti, paired with a pair of white leggings and a pair of blue minakari earrings, glistened as the orangish-yellow sunrays streamed across her countenance and form in the less crowded metro. The morning metro was usually calm and tranquil, comprising office-going individuals who were on their way to a long day full of hustle and bustle.
No sooner had she entered the office when a known acquaintance stood before her. She was Madhuja Bannerjee, Reena's classmate at Carmel High School. Madhuja had always been a reserved girl in school. She hardly spoke with anyone and kept on drawing in her sketchpad in her free time. Reena wanted to speak to her back when they were in school, but Madhuja hardly responded. However, they became best friends one day, during lunch break. From shared lunches to shared sketches, life was seemingly perfect. The worst was yet to happen. On their farewell day, in class twelve, Reena was at her mother's, since she had been keeping unwell for a long time. Knowing that she would be late for her farewell, she texted Madhuja, since none of her other friends were taking up the call. When she reached the venue after two hours, clad in a normal white tee and a pair of blue denims, with unkempt hair and nothing which screamed "farewell ", her classmates started teasing her for showing up at the party, firstly late and secondly in plain clothes. After all, how could the host of the Quiz Competition be late when it was bound to happen as soon as the speeches by the teachers concluded? The quiz event was delayed by an hour to be precise. Even though she was met with her teacher's friendly gesture, with kind questions " How is your mother now? ", her friends' cruel gaze and harsh words seemed to critique her for her irresponsible behavior. Reena ignored Madhuja, because of the old grudge she had against her for causing her humiliation four years ago, and proceeded towards her cabin. She started working on the new design she had to present that day in the meeting. A PowerPoint presentation does take time, after all. After she was done with the presentation, she presented it in front of the staff from all the departments and the client.
Amid the presentation, all of a sudden, her laptop froze for no reason at all. It had been completely charged to one hundred percent. As soon as she was about to be scoffed at, Madhuja intervened and told her to send over the ppt to her from her phone, and that she would present it from her laptop. Although hesitant at first, she gave in. Fifteen minutes later, applauded by the clients and the supervisor, Reena looked at Madhuja, teary-eyed. While leaving the presentation room, Reena asked her old schoolmate " Can we be friends now, pumpkin? " Nodding happily with tears of joy in her eyes, the girl hugged her friend, apologizing for the past mistake. The best friends had reconciled again, and an unintended betrayal had transformed into a strong bond. At a cafe, they ordered some lemonade and a rum chocolate cake, while chatting away. After office , the friends were together . Their bond had been citrusy before , to be really precise . But now, it turned out to be as sweet as chocolate . Dark chocolate is sweet , yet tinged with a bitter flavour profile . Sometimes , certain bonds just write themselves . They can be predestined too .
' Having great friends to share your life with is a gift like no other, and having a “best friend” is one of life’s most precious gifts.'
Human relationships can indeed be fragile at times . Fragility is one of the most common traits of human nature and relationships . Knowing how to navigate through the complexity of relationships is really difficult , yet feasible . They stand the test of time , patience , pain , love and what not . Unintended mistakes do occur frequently in life , but holding onto grudges because of such incidents maximizes trivial things . Triviality is parallel to mundanity . Mundanity is a quintessential part of life . Friends are the colourful part of that mundane life , which is extremely colourful and radiant like the glowing sun .
