Russia – the silent and noble giant

Russia or the former Soviet Union has been a nation peace loving that has never shown unwarranted expansionist designs. This can be as a matter of precedence seen in their approach towards global issues even during their earlier days when they were Union of Soviet Socialist Republic [U.S.S.R.] and the world’s superpower. Their disintegration in the year 1991 into various independent republics has been a dark chapter in modern world history. However, nothing can be said as these republics may again reunite to form a union of states and U.S.S.R. can return on the world map. It has been quite unfortunate that Russia as a nation has not been given the desired status and respect by the Western World that mainly consists of imperialist powers. This is a historical fact that the nations of Western Europe perceived the Slavs as an inferior race and have never given Russia the desired respect and status. During the post First World War period when the League of Nations had been formed Russia was given a very late entry into this organisation. All efforts had been made to crush Communist rule in this nation during those years. The support to the White Generals who were the Tsar loyalists was the first move by the imperialist powers of that time to subvert the 'proletarian state'. The nation was plunged into a Civil War but for the leadership of Comrade Vlladimir Lenin and Comrade Joseph Stalin would have ended in the collapse of the non-imperialist' nation. The subtle support offered by the West to the Fascists during this period had been with the aim of creating a force that could destroy the Communist nation that was Russia. This antipathy towards this giant of Eastern Europe has been an unfortunate affair that continues to remain till the present time. It seems that the Western nations have not yet learnt their lessons in this regard. The silent and noble giant has always been ignored despite their strength and peace loving, resilient nature.

The conflict between Ukraine and Russia is also a result of the nefarious support of these nations who are trying to completely disintegrate the Russian Federation. Imperialism in its most dangerous and vicious form can be at work in this part of the European continent. A neighbour that has purposefully tried to join hands against the Russian Federation and thus become the tool in the hands of the Western powers is now crying in the name of democracy. This is a false cry that the Ukrainian government has been making as their intent was to cause damage to the strategic interests of the Russian Federation. The pacific nature of the Russian establishment has many a times been mistaken for their weakness and those who have committed this mistake have ultimately repented. Napoleon from France, Hitler from Germany have been amongst these in the past and now it is Zelensky of Ukraine. It is rather perplexing to see as to how at the behest of the Western world Ukraine has been taking recourse to such a bellicose path against their neighbour. Perhaps, they have underestimated the Russian resilience that is the quality behind their victories in wars that have taken place in the past. The reason why lessons have not been learnt by Ukraine is a question that their government alone can answer. They have provoked their noble neighbour into war thus the ‘giant’ has been compelled to take recourse to an armed confrontation. Although, India as a friend of the Russian Federation [former Soviet Union] has been lobbying for a peaceful resolution of the problem nevertheless any kind of diplomatic moves that can damage Russian interests cannot and will not be supported by the Indian government. It is Russia that has been wronged by Ukraine and not the other way round. It is time that Ukraine takes the initiative towards ceasefire and the two neighbours move on the path of a peaceful and amicable resolution through dialogue. As a responsible neighbour Ukraine should refrain from playing into the hands of those nations that have been not very cordial towards the Russian Federation. Russia or former Soviet Union has always been a noble and helpful nation hence a cordial relationship will always be an asset for Ukraine provided their government understands this reality. Russia the silent and noble giant has to be taken into confidence and a peaceful formula be designed by mutual understanding before the situation gets out of hand. The Russian leadership has always been patient and least aggressive towards any country and Ukraine is testing their patience which is absolutely unfair and uncalled for.
