On the way back from the office, I usually catch the Bargachhia local train from the Howrah station. It reaches Bargachhia around 8:35 P.M. It takes 20 minutes to walk from my home to it. Because I missed the train today, Mr. Sasmal offered to take me in his white taxi, which will drop me off near Bargachhia around 9: 30 p.m. I accepted his offer with joy, and the taxi started to move smoothly from Howrah Maidan. It was a cold winter evening. "Rajat, Do you believe in "spirit"? Mr. Sasmal asked me. "Not at all. Despite the fact that I had heard numerous rumours from my neighbors. I replied. "What about you"? I threw back a question to him. After listening to my question, Mr. Sasmal stared at me in a serious mood and paused for a while. Then, he said, "I don't know if you will believe me or not, but I saw a man with pink eyes walking in the middle of the road in front of my car." It was just a month ago. It happened near the Munsir Hat crossing. Munsir Hat crossing is more or less ten minutes' walking distance from my house. It was astonishing that my car went over the man. But after a few seconds, I could not trace the man. "It was so mysterious and frightening that I could not sleep that night". Mr. Sasamal took a break and drank some water. He continued, "The next day I had a fever." I advised him, "It was a hallucination." Don't think too much about it. " Both of us were silent for fifteen minutes. Mr. Sasmal was driving the car. We were crossing Dumjur. It was fifteen to twenty minutes away from Bargachhia. He lit a cigarette. I asked, "What dress did the man wear?" Mr. Sasmal replied, "Black jeans and white t-shirt." A wrist watch on the right hand. But his eyes were clearly spotted as a deep pink colour. "Had he wanted to say something or utter any unusual words"? I enquired. Mr. Sasmal shook his head left to right twice. I said, "Have you read any ghost stories or movies during that time"? "No, no"—he replied strongly. I fixed my eyes outside the window of the car. The night was charming. The moon looked bigger and brighter. The wind was blowing fast. A few small noises by creatures were coming from fields and trees beside the road. We were about to enter Bargachhia. It was 9:45 P.M. The road is empty. No people were seen nearby, as Bargachhia is a rural area. The shops were closed. Only the cycle garage was open. We were at the Bargachhia crossing. Suddenly I noticed a tall man with pink eyes, dressed in black jeans and a white t-shirt, and holding a wrist watch in his right hand. When it came just two feet away from our car, Mr. Sasmal stopped the car and shouted, "Rajat, look it is the same person with pink eyes!" The man was hit on the bonnet of the car. Then disappeared. Mr. Sasmal stopped the car and became senseless. I was looking for a man. But I found nothing. I opened the door and came down on the road. I was sweating. My throat was dry. I took the bottle from the car and drank some water. Then, I sprinkled water on Mr. Sasmal's face. He woke up. Mr. Sasmal stayed at my house that night. We were sleepless.
The next day, I shared the incident with villagers. One senior villager named Hari Nayan explained to me: There was a man who came from Kashmir to this village several years ago. His eyes were pink in colour. He sells Kashmiri shawls to the villagers in the winter. So he usually stayed here for three months. The man was calm and simple. He used to sell shawls on loan. At the end of the season, he collects the money from his customers and returns to Kashmir. In the last year, he also sold shawls on loan. But he was unable to collect the money. He was compelled to stay here. His money was running out. He appealed to the people to repay him his money. But he failed to do so. Day by day, he becomes sick. His mental condition had been very poor. The person was compelled to leave the rented house. He was used to wandering on the road at night. One night, when he was wandering on the road, he was hit by a car. He was found dead in the morning. People are seeing him on the road after his death. He is walking towards cars at night with his horrible pink eyes.
