The general idea is that after you have passed your allotted three score and ten, there is little left to do in life. However, after reading this book, you will learn that it could be a new beginning. In the first chapter, the author outlines why they wished to change their lifestyle and move to Sri Lanka. In the first half of the book, we see them traveling through Sri Lanka. As they journey, short accounts of previous visits are recorded. Their first stop, Colombo, is a place the author first visited in 1959 with a monkey and her American boyfriend. She and the monkey hitched a lift on a cargo boat. Now, they find that motorized traffic has replaced the bullock carts.
They visit Kalutara, which they last saw in 2004, when her brother and father aged 97 accompanied her for the first time and had the unexpected experience of the tsunami. They find that all traces of the tragedy have been erased. As they continue visiting both old and new places, they make up their minds to make Sri Lanka their home. Though they faced many setbacks, after moving into their dream home on the author’s 77th birthday, everything far exceeded their expectations. Every day brings new discoveries, exotic plants, wonderful birds, insects, bats, jewel-like spiders, snakes, leaf-eating monkeys, and much more. They had made the right choice.
