Although her family was quite liberal, emphasis was given on the overall upbringing of a girl that included being good at all the household work. Cooking was a major part of this upbringing.

Delhi’s street food is said to have a unique taste of its own. The famous street food that fascinated the great Urdu poet Zauq said, “Kaun zaye Zauq yeh dilli ki galiyan chode kar.”
I grew up on aloo bedmi, nagori halwa, moong dal pakoi, kalmi bade, and hot kullar milk which are all disappearing today.
