Dr. Ravindra Nath Sharma, born in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, is a veterinary graduate from the U.P. College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Mathura. He obtained an MSc and Ph.D. degree in Veterinary Pathology from the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Izatnagar, India.
During his illustrious career, Dr. Sharma received many awards for his outstanding research and work including the National Jawahar Lal Nehru Award (1975) and Pfizer Award (2008 and 2018). In 2016, he was honored as a fellow of the Indian Association of Veterinary Pathologists. In 1976, he was selected from candidates of 39 Commonwealth countries as a consultant (poultry pathologist) to the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Cooperation (CFTC),a great honor for the IVRI and the country as a whole. During a 4-year CFTC mission in Zambia, his research findings made Zambia free of major poultry diseases.
Dr. Sharma worked and contributed for Veterinary education and research at various institutions of the world and has mentored more than 20 students for their MSc and Ph.D. degrees. He has also written two books, 4 monographs and published more than 210 research papers. Currently, Dr. Sharma serves as a professor of pathology and avian diseases and as Associate Dean, School of Graduate Studies at St. George’s University, Grenada.
