The waste generated from medical activities represents a real problem of living nature and the human world. Improper management of waste generated in healthcare facilities causes a direct impact on the community, the healthcare workers and on the environment—every day. This book has been written for healthcare workers, including doctors in general, and postgraduates of hospital/health administration and hospital managers in particular. Emphasis has been laid on biomedical waste from the point of origin to its disposal. A number of books have been written on this subject. However, in this book, I have tried to approach the topic of waste management from the national and international perspectives of a few representative countries—to some extent.
I hope this book serves its purpose well. I am aware of the fact that despite best efforts, it is possible that there might be some errors in the book. Dr. Shahnawaz Hamid
Dr. Shahnawaz Hamid did his MBBS from Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in the year 2003 and MD in hospital administration from SKIMS (deemed university) in the year 2015. He has also completed a post-graduation diploma in Quality Management of Hospitals and Medicolegal Systems from Symbiosis University, Pune in 2018.He is an active member of the Academy of Hospital Administration. He has a number of publications on important issues, in national and international journals, to his name.
