The plant belongs to the genus Acmella in the family Asteraceae, generally distributed in the tropics. Many members belongs to the genus  were commonly called as tooth ache plant. The pungent flower heads of these plants are chewed by people as they reduce the tooth pain. Identification of individual species is very difficult in this group because phenotypically these plants are very much similar.  This book provides detailed morphocharacteristics of  different Acmella species present all over Kerala. Also gives basic understanding about the  anatomical variations among the genera and also described basic chromosome number, chromosome counts and polyploidy nature of all the reported Acmella species in Kerala in order to clarify the taxonomic ambiguities present in the genus. The book also contains detailed taxonomic notes on individual Acmella species in Kerala with stunning pictures.

Dr. Reshmi G R is an academician who is specifically interested in plant research. She is a rank holder in PG and acquired Ph. D. degree from University of Kerala, Kariavattom Campus. Her area of specialization is plant morphology, taxonomy, phytochemistry and molecular biology. She is a recipient of Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment research fellowship. She authored several national and international publications in her areas. She has published two ISBN international proceedings chapters. She secured “best student award” and “merit scholarship” during her education. She secured 'Best paper award', 'International Excellence Award' and 'Merit certificate' during her research period. She published new chromosome number and polyploidy nature of the genus Acmella, she discovered a new plant species and a variety and also published 3 new plant combinations. Currently she is editorial member and reviewer of more than 11 international journals. She was the former faculty member in M G college, Thiruvananthapuram. At present she is a faculty in U C College, Aluva.
