Born in a cricket-obsessed family in India, a 10-year-old Rachit Agarwal fell in love with tennis when he first watched Roger Federer play at 2003 Wimbledon on television. As his passion for tennis and admiration for Federer increased over the years, he started taking a keen interest in understanding the psychological aspect of the game. He came across two autobiographies – Open by Andre Agassi and Getting a Grip: On My Body, My Mind, My Self by Monica Seles. Reading these books made him realize how mentally demanding the sport is, especially for top-level players.
His curious mind led him to discover some of the most intriguing, untold stories of professional tennis players, their highs, their lows, and their rollercoaster journey to becoming Grand Slam champions. But a particular group of players – those who were considered ‘One Slam Wonders’ – despite having contributed so much to the sport, drew him further, eventually inspiring him to write this book.
Rachit currently resides in the US with his wife. He makes a trip to Flushing Meadows every year to watch the US Open and cheer for his favorite tennis stars, living the fantasy of his 10-year-old self, year after year.
