Poe’s oeuvre is characterized by a recurring sense of melancholy, often viewed by literary critics as an echo of his own tragic experiences. Reading further into the nuances of some of his works in the light of a global pandemic, it has been noticed that Poe plays with isolation – or quarantine – to form a canvas upon which he lets his characters paint themselves.
