Arul Shanmugavelu
Arul Shanmugavelu is an engineer who learned early in life that degrees may open doors, but it is people, patience, and perspective that shape a career. After beginning his professional journey with HCL Limited and General Optics (Asia) Limited, he found his long-term professional home at Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T), where he spent nearly three decades growing, learning, and evolving.
At L&T, Arul worked across multiple functions—purchase, import and export logistics, domestic and international marketing, customer service, and product development. These roles took him across countries and cultures, teaching him that success is rarely about brilliance alone, but about consistency, trust, and showing up every day with sincerity. In 2014, he was entrusted with the responsibility of leading one of L&T’s subsidiaries as its Chief Executive—a role that brought together everything he had quietly learned over the years.
At the time of publishing this book, Arul serves as Country Head at Kobelco Industrial Machinery India Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Kobe Steel, Ltd., Japan.
Away from boardrooms and business reviews, Arul enjoys sharing what life has taught him. He is also deeply involved in social initiatives, especially those supporting underprivileged children—an effort close to his heart.
When not working, Arul finds joy in reading, writing, reflecting, and spending time with family—grateful for the long road that brought him here, and curious about where it might still lead.
