Coming from a modest background in Burma, orphaned at a young age and sent away from his brothers to live with family in India, Zain Rangoonwala benefited from growing up in a busy and loving extended family. He was well educated and soon took an interest in banking; an interest that would lead to a revolution of the banking world in India.
This is the life story of a visionary man, whose mission to establish a Co-operative banking institution for the benefit of under-represented sections of secular society, ultimately enabled tens of thousands of ordinary citizens to flourish and prosper.

Imraanali Mushaber Ahmedi, Saleem Zain Rangoon
Saleem Rangoon is the third of five children of Zain and Shireen Rangoonwala. He grew up in Mumbai, attending St Xavier’s High School and St Xavier’s College, at Bombay University, studying the First Year Science Degree before moving to England in 1968 to study medicine at Guy’s Hospital, London. He then trained in nursing at Brook General Hospital, London where he met his wife, Kim.
After spinal surgery prevented a career in hospital medicine, Saleem set up residential care homes in the south of England and later transferred his skills to psychotherapy, hypnotherapy and alternative remedies. He was well equipped to care for his father in the end stages of his life at his home in the New Forest.
Saleem now enjoys retired life in Bournemouth, travelling extensively, and enjoying the company of his four grandchildren.
