To keep this critical industry humming along and to attract new seafarers to this industry, we need to ensure that our seafarers can work and live safely as they go about their duties. So, can the shipping industry look at new ways of eliminating this “accident-proneness” of seafarers instead of just using the old tried and tested methods? Can we incorporate new knowledge from the field of neuroscience to enhance our training?
Ashok Menon
Capt. Ashok Menon commenced his seafaring career in 1981 with SCI Ltd, after passing out of the prestigious maritime institute, T.S.Rajendra.
Since then, he has served on various types of vessels and trades in reputed global shipping companies, sailing in ascending ranks including as ‘Master’ for nearly 7 years. His passion for training brought him to a shore career in 2004, and he was actively involved in developing and executing training of in-house courses for various reputed shipping companies in Mumbai.
In Nov 2013, he joined the reputed Danish company, TORM Shipping, as Head of Training (India), where he worked until July 2017. In July 2017, he was chosen to set up and head the Liberia Maritime Training Institute (LMTI) by Liberian Registry ( LISCR). After successfully setting up the infrastructure and training curriculum to train Liberian cadets in Maritime courses, he decided to return to India in June 2019 to pursue his other interests.
Capt.Ashok Menon lives in Mumbai, India, and is married and blessed with two children, a daughter and a son.
