Ganita literally means “the science of calculation” and is the Hindu name of mathematics. The term is a very ancient one and is said to have derived from the name of lord “Ganesh” (gana i ̂sha) otherwise known as lord of ganana ̅ (calculation). The veda ̅nga jyotisha gives it the highest place of honor among the sciences which form the Veda ̅nga.

The author Prof. Rama Chandra Deo is a devoted researcher on ancient and Vedic mathematics. This is the first book on “Number theory” written by him for better understanding of Mathematics by the young students. He has worked hard on Vedic Geometry and other chapters of higher classes developing new and interesting concepts on Baudhayana Sutra, Trigonometry, Calculus and other chapters.
He has worked on other Indian mathematicians like Aryabhata, Bramhagupta, Madhavacharya, Srinivasa Ramanujan and many other and developed many other interesting mathematical formulae those will be published in his latter books.
