Together for Eternity

by Shashank Shrivastava

It was the diwali night, diwali night it was, and I was standing besides the lake. Waiting for the one who was about to come, the one that has filled my dreams with her colors of love. The night was at its best. Stars and stars everywhere. I could feel like all of those stars are somehow related to me. Because even they had a glowing light which was raising and dimming like the beats of my heart. Not much people came at the lake at time of night to it was the perfect place to meet her, the scene of the woods surrounding me was great. The night was filled with a loving silence, no one was there to disturb. I tried to see my image in the lake water but all I could see was her beautiful face. I was feeling like even though she has not arrived yet but she’s there with me all the time. And I was just waiting for her to come for me. Waiting like a little boy does when his parents are about to come. Waiting for my unconditional irreplaceable love. Maybe some people had come there for camp fire, because I could clearly see the burning light at the other side of the lake, I felt that I am not the only one who thought that how beautiful the night is. Weather was quit cold I could easily feel the wetness of air in my palms. Ever coming sound was just enlarging the hope of seeing her again. And just then I saw someone coming from the woods. Oh god is it really her or just another dream of mine, has she really arrived here. No no its not at all a dream she is here she is here. Just for me she has come this far away in the woods at this late night, just for me. She is looking no less than an angel, infect the beauty of that amazing night was in no comparison with her. Her pure white dress is glowing in the light. She saw me standing near the lake and started walking towards me, she was walking so perfectly that it seemed like she’s walking on the air. Slowly she came to me I looked her in the eyes, the only thing I could see in her deep blue eyes was me, only me. Then before she could say anything I just grabbed her in my arms and hugged her tight. And we met; we met like two bodies and one sole.

But it was back then, whenever I think of it I get confused, that whether I should or cry. Now the times have changed. My point of view about certain things have changed. Now if I think of all those events then………………………..

Sky was full of stars and stars, and why wouldn’t it be, after all diwali is a new moon night. A night which is ruled not by the kingdom of light but by the government of darkness. No one used to come to the lake because the lake was cursed, it was said that the blue eyed spirit haunted the lake. That was not a lovely silence that was a dead silence. If only I could have understand that seeing her face instead of mine in the lake water that wasn’t because of my love, that was because of my fate. Maybe destiny was trying to warn me but I was the one who kept his eyes closed. Now even my soul gets scared whenever I think of it. Remember the burning campfire, that was no campfire, how could I forget there was a cremation ground on the other side of the lake. People said that the ghosts haunted both the lake and the woods. That coldness was also a sign of the fate, that chill was just like frozen hopes, the hopes that are never going to be true. That wetness that I could feel on my palms, they were like the tears of the weather. Even the weather was crying on my fate. And all that beauty I felt in the surroundings was just the beginning of my end, as was about to grab death in the misunderstanding of love. She came and everything got silent, like even the dark night was scared of her. The glow of her shiny white dress made me forget that where the hell did that light came in a new moon night. Her bloody perfect was so perfect because she really was walking on the wind. The beauty of her deep blue eyes made me forget about the folktale of that blue eyed spirit. Then I grabbed her, and in my innocent love I couldn’t understand that I was not in the arms of my love, but in the hold of my certain death. And then we met, we met not like two bodies and one sole, but like one body and two soles. And since then I am wondering here and there taking her with me, wherever I go, whatever I do. This one line which is understood like a blessing, became a curse for me . That now we are “Together for Eternity”.
