Valiant

by Prasanna

That day didn't go pleasant for me. I was buried into a pile of works, and I was in a position, so as to impress my upper hands by working over-time. As usual, even I had to work over-time to make myself more likely to a promotion. The street in which I was walking-by, was silent enough to make an A.L.Vijay movie appear louder and dark enough to make a child shriek all along the walk. Though it was pleasant, it wasn't impressive for me, a man aged 20, as I always fancy a noisy environment.

But the whole night didn't go the same way. It was just 100 or 200 mts from my house, when I suddenly fell unconscious (but not exactly the way you think!).

When I woke up I was sure I couldn't move my hands and legs. There were about 4-5 gundas in that omni (because everyone is kidnapped in that van I suppose).

"Have you really kidnapped me?". I asked so because I didn't think that I had enemity with anyone at such a level which would lead myself into this situation.

"I don't think you are my friend to give you a surprise treat", said that in blue torsos and gave me a bang on my head, which was good enough to make me sleep. Sweet dreams!

Again I woke up at 1pm roughly, but now I found myself in a different place. It was a dark room which was very partially illuminated by my radium watch. But suddenly that rusted metal door opened and two men and one of them with a banned sort of cigar, entered the room. He switched that torch on and flashed on my dark visage. I wasn't able to notice their faces, as my eyes were stuck by too bright lights.

"Is he the man?", one asked the other.

"Yes", said the other shortly and again both of them went out, but this time with the doors closed.

You could ask me,"Why don't you jump out, pounce on the man, grab his weapon, take him and the other man down, as all the protagonists do". But it's qiute inobvious, as I'm not a commercial hero to fight those gundas with such a skinny body, and it is also a reason why I had rejected an offer from a wind turbine company which came forward to offer me a better salary(hope you understand!).

For hours, the door remained open and no one to give me a company. I wished someone like Duraisingam came out to help me. Or atleast my brother, but he was dead. A similar scene happened to me in my childhood(not kidnapping). I was about to be hit by a heavy vehicle, but my brother Shivraj saved me from that deadliest vehicle. But now, no one like him could come here.

After a while, one gunda came inside and lifted me up so easily and I'm sure that he wouldn't have taken any effort in lifting me. He took me outside the room, with my hands and legs fastened by the ropes. He simply dropped me down on that muddy floor and whistled to another one, who already came inside the room. But this time it seems he has settled the money to the gundas, and it is only he and me, who were here. I saw him... Oh! It was Kumaravel, my colleague. He came closer and started to say something in an angry and frustrated tone-bla...bla...bla!

But I could understand one thing- seeing my works, boss decided to get me to that Kumaravel's post and give him my post. Is he a fool? The salary has got just a thousand bucks difference and he is following the saying "Tit for Tat" on me, for such a silly thing. You idiot!

"Sorry Kumaravel, I have nothing to do with it", said I to him. But his ears weren't ready to transmit my words to his brain. Now... Oh my god! He has got a knife!

"Save me!", I cried putting all my efforts. In a moment or so, a stray came rushing towards me. It sprinted like a panther and in a single pounce and he was down (don't ever think he is dead). Before he could wake up, I urged out of the street and that valiant was following me. I saw him thankfully, for I don't konw the reason why did it save me.

The next day when I returned from my office (Kumaravel wasn't there in the office and let no one know it), I tied that small name-written badge like thing on my dog's neck, which I brought it to my house the previous day.

With that golden colour plate around its neck, he wagged his tail so fast like a car wiper. The sun-light reflected on the plate, which was inscribed "Shivraj"! I could see it's wet eyes sparkling on the sun's light and obviously mine too.
