Marthaus' Time Machine consists of four discs, which are each coated in a colour of his choosing. The discs can be played by pulling a handle which, when released, travels the distance of the disc back in time. When this disc has traveled back to its original position, the next disc can be played and so on. Marthaus anticipated that, by using this time traveling machine, people would be able to visit alternate futures in which they could have had different or desired careers. But, instead of using this machine to travel back in time, he believed that it could also be used to control the future.

To control the future, the Marthaus designed a device which would be inserted into someone's brain. Through this, they could predict what might happen in any given year in the future. For instance, Marthaus once predicted that by creating certain special glasses, people would be able to read other people's mind, and thus learn certain secret information. This was a fascinating claim, because in the past, reading other people's thoughts was thought to be a mind reading technique which was only used by psychics and other individuals with exceptional mental abilities. However, with the use of Marthaus Device, people were able to read other people's minds, and thus learned certain information.

Even though Marthaus had envisioned the Time Machine as a great gift for his friends, theodor Seuss Geisel (who was also working as an architect) thought it was not quite feasible as a gift; instead he thought it would be much more valuable if it actually helped people in their own lives. Therefore, he designed a machine to make this possible and began working on it in 1940. Eventually, he would patent the Geisel Time Machine and would oversee its manufacturing.

In addition to using the device to control time, Geisel thought that it should also be possible to travel back in time. This would allow people to relive past events and perhaps do some "retrospection." He also wanted a way for people to experience the future. So, in the book, The Time Machine, he proposed a solution for both time traveling, and for people to view the past and the future.

A Time Machine gives you a look at how far we've come in the past, as well as in the future. It is interesting to think about how we might live in an alternate time, or even how our present time line will appear in the future. For instance, if you are interested in traveling back in time, or looking at the ways in which our present time is influencing our future, then this book can be a great read.

In the book, the main character, Martin Davis, is a scientist. Because of this, he spends most of his time traveling back through time, and doing research. Along the way, he meets with a lady who lives in an alternate future. Together, they discover that there is a way to travel back in time and see how the future might have been different.

Though the premise of the book may sound strange, the main theme it presents is fascinating. It shows how even seemingly insignificant events, like traveling back in time, or seeing the future, can have profound effects. It also gives a fascinating glimpse into how science and technology are formed, as well as how it might be possible to travel back in time. For this reason, Time Machines: The Art of Time Management is a highly recommended book.
