P. K. Das is a grass root process and power plant engineer. He acquired engineering qualification from The Institution of Engineers (I), Kolkata, both in chemical and mechanical engineering in 1981 and 1988 respectively. He possesses the Boiler Operation Engineering (BOE) proficiency certificate from the Directorate of Boilers, Kolkata. He also completed graduate diploma in materials management in 1989. Subsequently, he became a fellow from The Institution of Engineers (I) in 2003.
He acquired vast experience and profound knowledge in chemical process plants and power plants for over 17 years in Government sectors and 23 years in the private sector. During such a long career, he has gained experience in project execution, commissioning, operation and maintenance of process plants and power plants.
He was associated with renowned companies like Hindustan Fertilizer Corporation of India Ltd., Indian Charge Chrome Ltd., Dishergarh Power Plant, General Electric, DLF Industries Ltd. and Thermax Ltd. He commissioned over twenty power plants in captive range from 4MW to 150MW comprised of all types of boiler having fuel of all kinds. Mentioned worthy achievement is that he was involved in commissioning and O&M of the biggest solar thermal plant in India of 100MW at Pokhran, Rajasthan. Presently, he is associated with Klein Constro Development Pvt. Ltd.
Dr. A. K. Das is a professor at Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (Formerly the West Bengal University of Technology), West Bengal. Before joining the University, he was a registrar at MCKV Institute of Engineering, Howrah (WB), professor and dean (academic and planning) at Durgapur Institute of Advanced Technology and Management, Durgapur, WB, for more than 10 years. Before joining academic institutes, he was associated with various multinational and Government organizations in different managerial positions for more than 24 years.
Dr. Das passed B.Sc. (Hons.) in Chemistry (1981), B.Tech. (1984) and M.Tech. (1987) in chemical engineering from Calcutta University. He obtained a Ph.D. (Tech) degree in 2006 from the same university.
He has published many research papers in international and national journals. He is a research guide for Ph.D. students at NIT, Durgapur, and Calcutta University, WB. He is a consultant of Fly Ash Utilization and Management.
A member of various professional societies such as the Institution of Engineers (India), Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE) and Coal Ash Institute of India, Dr. Das is a chartered engineer and has authored a book, An Introduction to Thermal Power Plant Engineering and Operation.
