Rajni Raina completed her elementary education at the hallowed portals of Prayag Mahila Vidyapith at Allahabad under the tutelage of the renowned freedom fighter, poet, women’s activist and educationist, Mrs. Mahadevi Verma, the principal at Prayag Mahila Vidyapith. The close proximity with the luminary inspired the author and sowed the seeds for writing stories for the moral and social awakening of the masses in her early formative years. Besides writing, Rajni Raina worked at Doordarshan Kendra at Lucknow as a scriptwriter of stories, dramas and so on for children’s programmes. She also aided in production work. Her talks were regularly aired on the Lucknow Radio Station. After the sad demise of her husband, Mr. Indramohan Nath Raina, she spends her time guiding her son (Raju) and daughter (Deepa) and their families.

रजनी रैना की प्रारंभिक शिक्षा फैज़ाबाद तथा कक्षा १ से १० तक की शिक्षा प्रयाग महिला विद्यापीठ, प्रयागराज (इलाहाबाद) में हुई । प्रख्यात हिंदी कवियित्री, स्वतंत्रता सेनानी और शिक्षाविद, श्रीमती महादेवी वर्मा, प्रयाग महिला विद्यापीठ की प्राचार्या थीं, जब रजनी रैना प्रयाग महिला विद्यापीठ में छात्रा थीं । अतः रजनी रैना भाग्यशाली रहीं और उन्हें महादेवी वर्मा जी को करीब से देखने का अवसर प्राप्त हुआ ।
एम. ए. एल. टी. के उपरान्त रजनी रैना की प्रथम नियुक्ति 'प्रवक्ता' पद पर हुई । उनका विवाह श्री इंद्रमोहन नाथ रैना से हुआ जो उस समय यू. पी. कोआपरेटिव बैंक में एक एजेंट के रूप में कार्यरत थे ।
लखनऊ रेडियो स्टेशन से उनकी कई वार्ताएं भी प्रसारित हुईं।
