“What are you doing?” I walked into her room. Apparently she had forgotten to lock the door before she’d decided to suffer through a mental breakdown.
She sat in the corner of her room, on the floor, with her arms wrapped around her knees and her blanket draped around her shoulders. Her toes curled up in the soft carpet beneath her as she looked up to me, her eyes red from crying, mascara running down her face. “Dying,” she complained sarcastically.
Mine eyes shone worriedly as I crouched down before her. “What’s up, doll?”
“Oh my god, you’re actually staying?” she squeaked, immediately hiding her face in her knees. She’d expected me to swirl around and walk away, like any guy would find a mess like her.
I let out a slight chuckle. “What, am I supposed to walk away after seeing you like this? She herself fell on his butt and spread his legs so that she was sitting between them, gently taking her hands. “What happened?”
She scoffed. “Nothing happened,” she growled. “I’m just having a bad day. Blood. Emotions. Hormones. Pain.”
She was overly appreciative that I didn’t play the typical man-card, claiming that it was just her time of the month, right? Of course it was, but having someone emphasise that fact would never make her feel better. Matter of fact was that she felt like shit. I didn’t mention the time of the month.I just looked at her worriedly. “Okay,” I then said full of sympathy, “Is there anything I can do to make you feel better?”
Frowning heavily, she thought for a second. “Yes. Give me chocolate.”
I heaved himself up from the carpet with a relieved smile. “Yes, ma’am,” I responded rapidly, glad that she had given me something to do. “I’ll be back in no time.” And I was back in no time. I must have sprinted the spirit of my life, running as fast as my legs could carry me, because I returned with a basket filled with chocolate within less than a minute. Almost as if I had prepared for this situation. The basket came with a tie and her favourite chocolate bars and everything.
“Whoa,” she brought out in surprise, crawling out of her blanket-cave. I thudded down on the carpet again and this time took my place beside her, close enough for her arms to lightly touch, sparking the electricity. I proudly gestured at the chocolate basket. “This is…” she found herself at a loss for words, and then felt tears burning in her eyes. “That is the sweetest thing ever, babe.”
“No, no,” I stammered, watching tears fall down her cheeks. “Don’t–doll, don’t cry! I wanted to make her feel better!”
Her lip started trembling uncontrollably though she knew she was acting like a fool. She tried to wipe the tears away before they became too much, but it was already too late. “I, I love you so much,” she brought out through shrieking breaths.
“Aww, Y/N,” I then slowly started laughing, wrapping my arms around her. “I love you too. So much. And it’s all going to be okay.”
“I know,” she cried, letting her head rest against my warm, comforting chest. My heartbeat gave her a wonderful, soothing rhythm to listen to, to match her own breathing pattern. She wanted to stop crying because she appreciated me so much as she didn’t want to make me feel bad. “I’m fine.”
I firmly kissed the top of your head. “Okay.”
“Really, I’m fine.” she just couldn’t stop shaking.
“Sure,” she could hear me smiling against her hair. Not leaving room for resistance, I tightened my hold around her, holding you together. “I’m just gonna sit here for a while, with you,”I stated. “My legs are tired.”
she let out a shaky laugh against my chest. “From all the running to get the chocolate?”
“Yes,” I said. “Don’t think she is gonna eat it all on her own, though. If we’re going to stay on our bedroom floor for the entire night, I will have a piece.”
“You can have one bite,” I offered.
I let out an indignant sound before laughing. “Alright,”I sighed, “If that’s what it takes to be with her, I’ll do it.”
“I’m sorry that you have to deal with this,” she whispered softly, feeling like a terrible girlfriend. “I’m sorry that I can’t just be happy all the time. I know that you’ve gone through much more shit than me and yet I’m the one here crying my eyes out–”
“Stop it,” I interrupted her forcefully. “Are you crazy? No one can be happy all the time. That’s just not a thing. Listen, every now and then I also need to be reminded that every feeling fades. You might feel like shit right now but you won’t feel that way forever. Remember the last time you were sad? You felt better after a while, didn’t you? Life has ups and downs and that’s completely fine, but you have to remember that the lows aren’t eternal. You’re not stuck in them. The up is waiting, maybe just around the corner. So don’t give up just yet, because it will get better. And it is going to be okay.”
She growled something inaudibly, before letting your thoughts run your tongue. “But I should be the one telling you it’s going to be okay, shouldn’t I?”
“No,” I replied instantly. “Everyone has good days and everyone has bad days. And that’s the great thing about us. We can be there for each other. It’s a two-way stream of love.”
She closed her eyes for a second and held her breath, feeling me wrap my arms around her even closer.I wanted to hold all of her. There was nothing sexual about it. It was just a warm hug full of love. “I’ve never heard you say such sappy things before,” she then commented. And she adored every word of it. No one had ever succeeded to make her feel better like I had.
“Doll, that’s what you do to me,” I murmured. “You make me want to say sappy things. Now, doll, eat your chocolate. Or I will….”
