JUNE 10th - JULY 10th
It was a very chill morning! Due to last night’s heavy rain, the light from the Sun looked pale yellow in color…!
The heaven was still beautiful for the eyes, as the view of the sky resembled the skin of a half matured mango fruit, torn apart and beautifully spread out throughout the top of clouds…
Time reached 6.40 am. Parameswaran was lying on bed, having a double mind whether to wake up or not…! He quickly glanced at the sky through his bedroom’s window and quickly covered his legs with bed sheet…!
His three daughters were his life’s everything!
His first two daughters ‘Kavya’ and ‘Meenu’ already woke up and went for their morning football training. His last and naughty daughter ‘Loganayagi’ was still in her bed, unknowingly showing her mother’s same facial smile while still sleeping…!
Eight years before, when Loganayagi was born, his wife ‘Sivagami’ died due to severe bleeding which was later categorized by doctors as ‘Direct Obstetric Death’…!!!
He overcame that loss, with a huge difficulty…
In spite of his wife’s loss, he named his last daughter so, in remembrance of his mother, who was the main reason for all his business existence and success in that highly competitive market!
Years went by…! Loganayagi had reached her fifth standard.
It had become a ‘used to formula’ for them that he and his three daughters were the only family members, after his mother’s expiry three years before! All his daughters were very jovial in nature!
He also grew up all his daughters very boldly as boys, especially with regard to sports. Loganayagi was interested in Chess! She was always very playful.
Since his marriage, his wife Sivagami used to call him ‘PARAMU’ shortly…!
Even he used to insist his daughters also, to call him in the same way, just to sustain his wife’s vocal presence inside their house! But no one responded to his request and they called him simply ‘Appa’…! (Meaning Dad…)
Time reached 7.46 am…!
He waited ten more minutes for his little daughter Loganayagi to wake up. She seemed to be sleeping continuously and he finally woke her up by insisting, “Come on cutie girl…! Get up! It’s already late for school, know…!”
“See! Your elder sisters have finished their football training and getting ready for school now…!
Loganayaghi “5 minutes Appa…! Please…!”
He “Call me Paramu…!”
Loganayagi “Iyyo Appa…! Let me sleep 5 more minutes pa…! Leave me please…!”
Parameswaran was running his own Press work in the corner of their street in Chrompet, Chennai, mainly dealing with making invitations, posters and school book binding works… It went on successfully for him.
He never had any bad habits or any financial problems.
His one and only usual time pass was to meet his close friend ‘Renganathan’ during weekends, who lived in a place Keelkattalai, Chennai nearer to his Chrompet area...! Renganathan was his school classmate, settled in the same city Chennai. They always had fun, talking about cinemas and local politics…
They had a regular meeting place, nearer to Renganathan’s residence in Keelkattalai.
It was a Saturday evening…!
As usual, Parameswaran went to Keelkattalai traffic signal’s corner tea shop and waited for his friend Renganathan!
Renganathan never missed to meet him on weekends. He would call him, if he had any other work and intimate him that he could not come there... After ten minutes of his waiting there, Renganathan came with a happy face telling, “Hi paa! As per our wish, a new thriller film is getting released this week…!”
“Can we go…?”
Parameswaran “Yaa…! Sure paa! No problem. We can go…! But this time, I will book the movie tickets for us in online…!”
Renganathan “That’s ok…”
Renganathan took his usual Samosa from the tray and ordered tea for them…! They spent that evening happily, discussing about currently running super hit Tamil movies. Half an hour later, Renganathan left for his other works…!
Many times they used to watch morning movie shows at 11.30 am, after finalizing what film to see…!
His daughters studied in the nearby Government Board High School and it was comfortable for him to take care of them in the evenings…!
That day, after his friend Renganathan left the tea shop, Parameswaran also decided to return home. When he went near his bike and started kicking it, he happened to see a very unusual person wearing saree, sitting on the steps of the tea shop, at the very remote corner of it…!!! She looked different…!
Immediately he realized that she was a transgender…! But she looked very beautiful in that dark blue saree, she was wearing…!
He saw her constantly for a minute. In his experience, he never happened to see that much starringly even at females before...! But her very look, dressing and posture attracted him very much.
In that very first encounter itself, her face sticked on to his heart and also insisted inside him, that he had to start speaking to her and become a friend…!!! No word could easily describe Parameswaran’s feeling at that moment and reason behind such sudden decision developed in his mind!
Thinking like that, he started his bike and returned home half mindedly, leaving that tea shop...!
After taking dinner, he went to sleep, but her very face came to his view again and again, whenever he closed his eyes…!
One week went by…!
Still the thoughts of meeting her and becoming a known person to her, was flowing inside Parameswaran’s mind again and again, like the flow of saliva in the tongue! His inner mind also enforced him that he should try some plan and achieve becoming close to her…
That immediate Sunday evening, Parameswaran called his fiend Renganathan for their usual visit to the tea shop…
Unfortunately Renganathan had some ‘Over time work’ in his company and he was struck up there…! So he refused…! And told that, he will try to come there, if possible…, if his works got over earlier!
Parameswaran’s conscience still insisted him that he might visit that tea shop alone and try to get that transgender’s friendship by some means and store her contact number in his cell phone…!
Without any more hesitation, he simply started his bike and proceeded towards that tea shop…! During that bike ride itself; his mind was full of tension. Even, he could not properly grip the bike’s hand bar! Not to exaggerate, some sort of sexual urge newly filled up his mind and was continuously generating big waves then and there…!
He had a doubt, whether she might refuse to give her phone number, if he asked her openly…! Several questions arose in him…
“What do I speak to her…?”
“How do I start discussing any common matter with her…?”
Like that, he kept on speaking to himself while reaching the tea shop there…!
At the same time, his mind consoled himself that all transgenders will be mainly involved in sexual activities, for more money…! And they would always be ready to do anything, once they were offered more money! His mind was very confident in that. Still some sort of fear was sticking onto his face and it was very clearly visible also…!
Henceforth, he became very confident that, once he started speaking to her, become a friend, later he could easily tell his desire to her, in a matter of few days…! He also planned little peculiarly that he might better meet her when she was involved in such activities, so that she could readily understand his needs…!!!
Thinking many alternate ideas and plans like that, he reached the tea shop in ten to twelve minutes as he drove the bike little faster, even in that tension.
His heart was beating very fast…!
He looked around…
She was not there. He waited near his bike for almost twenty more minutes. She did not turn up.
He got disappointed…!
In a matter of 30 minutes, he gave up and decided that she won’t come that day. Also standing before that corner tea shop alone, seemed to be little boring for him...! He almost planned to leave that place. As his friend Renganathan also won’t come that day, he decided to return to his house immediately.
All of a sudden, when he turned to his left side to start reaching his bike, that transgender was seen there, collecting money from one jeweler shop in the opposite side of the road and coming out…!
His face became bright and happy.
Unfortunately she immediately turned towards the next street, instead of coming to that tea shop…!
Without any second thought, he decided to follow her and immediately started walking behind her at a safe 80 meters distance…!
She walked so fast… While walking itself, she seemed to be counting all her money collections and smiling at it…!
Parameswaran simply maintained his safe distance from her and continued following her!
His mind was very confident, that once he could become acquainted with her, get her phone number then surely at least once in a month, he could be very close with her and enjoy every moment with her…! Even Parameswaran thought of taking her to movies also...! In spite of the fear and tension, his mind was filled up with a new joy of meeting her, in a matter of few minutes...!
She walked almost two kilometers. Parameswaran truly felt very tiresome in that walking. Her usual practice of walking to many stores might have made her, easily cross more distances in less time…!
All of a sudden, she entered a small interior street very less frequented by people in the last street…!!! Parameswaran continued following her in spite of a little fear…!
Suddenly she stopped walking at one place, looked in both directions and quickly entered a house by opening a steel door there!!!
Parameswaran became afraid…!
Few seconds would have passed…
Gathering extra boldness in his mind, he too slowly went near that gate and saw inside of it, by slightly opening the door…!
He was STARTLED totally…!!!
She was readily distributing all her money collections to some EIGHT BLIND PEOPLE LIVING IN THAT OLD HOUSE…!
On the top of the opposite wall of that hall, Parameswaran saw pictures of ‘Lord Ganesa’, ‘Thiru Kuran’ and ‘Lord Jesus’ altogether in a single photo frame…!!!
One old blind lady told, “Thanks VIMALA! You are always helping us!”
She smiled…
With the same smiling face, that transgender lady turned towards the main door where Parameswaran was standing. She asked,
“Yes ANNAA, May I help you…?” (Meaning Brother…)
Parameswaran did not know what to tell…
He replied “I came in search of my friend…Sorry…!”
And returned to his bike by slowly walking from there…!
(Realizing what a great human she was…)
Parameswaran ordered tea in the shop. While taking tea in the tea shop, his friend Renganathan came…
He told “Extra work paa! Very tired…! We meet next week…”
Then he left…
Parameswaran returned home. His first two daughters were cooking while his last daughter Loganayagi was doing her home work, by keeping her notes and books on the floor…!
Parameswaran asked her “What girl…? Finishing home work very early…! Very Good!”
She replied “Yes PARAMU…!” and smiled at him, showcasing his wife Sivagami’s usual smile at him…!!!
He happily turned at his wife’s photo in the wall and told “My daughter has at last called me just like you…!”
His wife’s photo looked very clean and polished with new set of lamps lighted up, BY his very daughters Kavya, Meenu and Loganayagi…!
