Tamil Nadu Institute of Urban Studies is a recognized research institution of Government of Tamil Nadu. Professor Tamizhselvan received his Ph.D in Commerce with Finance specialization from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. Prof Tamizhselvan has taught in B.Com, M.Com., M.C.A., M.Sc., M.B.A., and Post Graduate Diploma in Urban Financial Accounting and Management.
