Shades is a book with a symbolic representation of our lives through colours. It has been successful in answering the question, "What is life?" with its versatility to express major situations persisting in human life. The colours that are vividly connected to our life and represented in the book are - Red, the color of Passion; Blue - the hue representing inspiration and calmness; Yellow - representative of sunshine and warmth; Green - the color of rejuvenation; and Black - witness of the evils of society. The author, Manya Pal has tried to gather poets from various parts of the world who were also looking for the answer to the question "What is life?". We hope that this book gives the reader wings to explore the unexplored; fantasize the unimaginable; and live the unreal.

Manya Pal, who is an 18 year old mass media student has just completed her schooling from Kanpur. Writing is a medium to express human emotions without fearing any judgments or restrictions. Writing for her is the foundation of her survival in this universe. She uses writing as a medium to rise above the mundane, towards the realms of the earth and even above them; seeking temporary escapism from the world which entangles her in a cobweb of problems and confusion. Endeavors are an outpour of her breathing sub consciousness; they are something like the droppings of the effervescence of dreams and visions, hopes and wishes, smiles and tears. She is an amateur writer aiming at seeking a state of utopia by working upon her inadequacies through writing.
