Keeping this in view, this book starts with an introduction to the functioning of DP system. Chapter two makes the reader aware of the six degrees of the movements. The understanding of the movements controlled by the DP system and the movements compensated for offsetting the readings of the position reference sensors is explained. Chapter three deals with the seven components of the DP system, how they connect with each other and how the controller controls the thruster output with the help of thruster allocation logic.

The book includes the questions and their answers which address various aspects of Bloom’s taxonomy of understanding, applying and evaluating the subject. Chapter four to chapter fifteen contain the questions and answers. Dr Surender Kumar
Dr Surender Kumar has a long experience in DP Training in many countries. He was the Principal of Sir Derek Bibby Maritime Training Centre in Mumbai; the team was pioneer in introducing DP training in India. His sincere efforts as a DP trainer were recognised when he was awarded the best trainer for the offshore courses in 2018. Dr Kumar is also an academician and is a visiting faculty for a few prominent universities in India. He is an approved PhD guide and an accredited management teacher.
Dr Kumar has more than a decade’s experience teaching maritime professionals in India, Nigeria, South Africa, Dubai, Korea Maritime and Oceans University, Busan, South Korea and Indonesia. He is truly an international maritime and DP trainer. Dr Kumar is currently employed with Azureus Simulators Asia as Research and Development Advisor. His vast experience teaching DP to international students inspired him to write this book catering to the needs of the DP professionals.
A fellow of the Nautical Institute, a fellow of the Institute of Marine Engineering Science and Technology (IMarEST), a chartered engineer from the UK charter, a chartered marine technologist (UK), is a keen learner and is popularly known as the “DP Guru” among his students. “Dynamic Positioning for Engineers” is one more book authored by Dr Kumar.
