Protected agriculture is one of the answers to address the issue of climate change in the field of agriculture. This aims not only to increase crop productivity but also the income of the farmers. Further, this technology provides scope for organic cultivation.
In the pursuit of developing technologies for combating climate change through protected agriculture and thereby increasing the crop productivity, many scientists are working throughout the country. The research on protective agriculture engulfs many aspects including greenhouse technology, shadenet cultivation, use of insect-proof nets, low and high tunnel technologies, mulching, vertical farming, micro irrigation and fertigation in protected agriculture, etc.
Though well-planned research and development activities are in progress since more than five decades in this country, the findings and technologies pertaining to protected agriculture developed are available in a scattered manner. This book makes an attempt to compile as many technologies developed in this country as possible along with present government support for protected agriculture, so that the researchers, planners, policy makers and other stakeholders can plan their future approaches to make agriculture in India more sustainable under climate change and improve the overall economy of the farmers as well as the country.
The author hopes that this publication will be very useful for students, researchers and all other stakeholders in the field of protected agriculture for furtherance of their activities to improve the agricultural production and enhance the net profit for the farmers annually, resulting in doubling their income in the long run.
