Protected agriculture is one of the answers to address the issue of climate change in the field of agriculture. This aims not only to increase crop productivity but also the income of the farmers. Further, this technology provides scope for organic cultivation.
In the pursuit of developing technologies for combating climate change through protected agriculture and thereby increasing the crop productivity, many scientists are working throughout the country. The research on protective agriculture engulfs many aspects including greenhouse technology, shadenet cultivation, use of insect-proof nets, low and high tunnel technologies, mulching, vertical farming, micro irrigation and fertigation in protected agriculture, etc.
Though well-planned research and development activities are in progress since more than five decades in this country, the findings and technologies pertaining to protected agriculture developed are available in a scattered manner. This book makes an attempt to compile as many technologies developed in this country as possible along with present government support for protected agriculture, so that the researchers, planners, policy makers and other stakeholders can plan their future approaches to make agriculture in India more sustainable under climate change and improve the overall economy of the farmers as well as the country.
The author hopes that this publication will be very useful for students, researchers and all other stakeholders in the field of protected agriculture for furtherance of their activities to improve the agricultural production and enhance the net profit for the farmers annually, resulting in doubling their income in the long run.

Mitigation and adaptation are two ways to combat climate change. Among the different approaches, plasticulture, i.e. the use of plastics in agriculture is one of the major approaches to address the issues of climate change.
Day by day, the number of scientists engaged in plasticulture research in the country is increasing. Plasticulture research engulfs many aspects, including the use of plastics in water management. Though well-planned research and development activities are in progress for over five decades in this country, the findings and technologies developed pertaining to plasticulture are available in a scattered manner.
In this volume of the book an attempt is made to compile as many Indian technologies developed as possible, pertaining to use of plasticulture in the area of water resources management,so that the researchers, planners, policymakers and other stakeholders can plan their future approaches to make Indian agriculture more viable, sustainable, and techno economically feasible.
