Dr. Swaminathan Raman was born on the 26th of September, 1942 at Thanjavur in Tamilnadu. After completing his graduation in Agriculture, from the Madras Agricultural College, Coimbatore. Dr. Swaminathan Raman was born on the 26th of September, 1942 at Thanjavur in Tamilnadu. After completing his graduation in Agriculture, from the Madras Agricultural College, Coimbatore. Dr. Raman obtained his M.Sc.( agriculture) in the field of Soil Science from the Institute of Agriculture, Anand. Subsequently, he obtained his doctorate in the field of Soil Science from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi in1981.
Dr. Raman has served the Gujarat Agricultural University in various capacities from 1969 to 2002 and retired as the Chief Scientist in Soil and Water Management. He has got more than 34 years of experience in the field of teaching and research and 25 years of experience in the field of administration. After superannuation, he is continuing his activities in the capacity of consultant to various state, national, and international organizations engaged in water resources management and protected cultivation.
Dr. Raman has got more than 200 publications to his credit in addition to around 30 technical bulletins. He co-authored a book MICRO IRRIGATION: Economics and Outreach, which was published by Macmillan Publishers.
Dr. Raman has been bestowed with many state and national level awards.
