Maryada Purushottam is a tribute to my late father. As his youngest child, I have had the privilege of observing and being with my father who epitomized his idol, Lord Rama in the way he conducted the different facets of his illustrious life of ninety years. It is only my father who could have transformed me from a shy, introverted, despondent, and diffident teenager floundering in his academics into a confident man capable of facing up to, and fighting his own battles in life. He inculcated in me a love for English literature but for which you wouldn't be reading this book. He in fact prepared me for life after him. He was a "Gem of Purest Ray Serene" (Gray's Elegy). To borrow a quote from the Great Bard's play Julius Ceaser, Mark Anthony's tribute to Ceaser could well apply to Dad, "When Comes Such Another". It is my sincere hope that the readers find my father's memoir an inspiring and engaging read.
