Because There's More to iT

by Karan Joseph Raghavan

The only thing to do with Good Advice, is to Adhere and eventually, Pass it on :)

The above sentence but, sadly as the world goes, can either be taken in a positive way or in a bad way, which is why instead of hunting for food at 4 AM as the daily ritual goes, lol, A Message to the Wise :)

A story for my fellow classmates whom I have come to love and respect over our entire time spent together as batch-mates. Enjoy the read guys. PS- Just don't judge :), Many of you never got to read this, but had to republish cause everyone needs a friend. And so far, this is the story :)

A young guy left home in search of a degree to gain respect and loyalty from the world. Whereto lied the question. So he traced his history and went where he longed to go for two whole years but as luck would have it :D, he eventually landed where his father came of age. It ain't a hard guess with its history, traditions, and to top it all, its name.

St. Xavier's College.

How he got in, to this day, hehe, even he doesn't know. But what mattered, was that he got in! And as fate would have it, with the admission number of his father's birthday. 15th April (aka BBA1504)..

The joy was indescribable. The leap of faith finally came through. All his problems were answered. News spread as it always does. Everybody was happy and kindling with joy, and so was he. The goal set, was achieved. Admission was done in none other than the best college in the country for the perfect course he had set his mind to. Last min. U bet!!

All was set. Fees were paid. Hostel accommodation was done. All that he needed now was a holiday. And voilà, it was granted. Holidays pass as does life. But a happy one is always etched in the corner of your memory. :)

Here starts the story.

First day of College!!!

The excitement could be felt from every inch of the auditorium he had just entered. A swarm of people who he would come across to know in the next three years to come. He hadn't met a soul there except for one, who he paid the fees with, but sadly he wasn't to be seen. So he took the last place he could be seen. Away from the crowd. Scared as always, of new events, new people, a new arena. As the proceedings went by, he came to know about the history of what we call today our precious St. Xavier's College, Calcutta. He came to know about the hardships the college went through and slowly but steadily as the clips of the Inauguration Presentation went by, he started calling it "My College".

Since then, he never looked back.

Classes started. He met new people who he never thought he would meet. Made new friends who he knew would stick by his side for a lifetime. Met new teachers who helped him beyond doubt. Things were going fine. But every story has a twist. :)

The city life which he was used to since birth, gave him a different turn. This time he was on his own. No parents, no family. A young crowd. Younger crowds are generally 'untamed' like the Tiger in Life of Pi. So was he. Untamed. All the years of wisdom and learning came to a halt. New things were more interesting. The fast life glittered. The wrongs called and he answered with no regard for what might lay ahead. He was living in the moment. The logic behind, this is what college is for. True. College life is meant for fun. These days are never ever EVER gonna come back. But truth be told, he was young. Mistakes were made that never should have been made. And it showed. The crowd which once used to adore him now regarded him as hollow. His grades went down, priorities changed and last but not the least, a sense of overconfidence leapt at his feet.

This continued for a while until he realized that something needed to be done. But it was too late. He went too far in the city life and most of his savings had been spent. But he had a skill and he could use it to get back where he started. But he would have to choose. Money or Grades. If he went for grades he wouldn't have had anymore grades in the coming future. The world works with money. This was a lesson hard learnt. So he went ahead and regrettably chose what he didn't want to.

Sadly, Every action has an opposite and equal reaction. He missed all his exams. There was no other way. Word spread as it usually does. To contrast, he was expecting sympathy, but in return he was commemorated with the title "A showoff". He had dug his own grave. hehe. But he didnt give up. Confidence or Overconfidence still lied. He thought "One Sem Gone, The Next's Downfall :D". He pursued. Last min. hehe. U bet!!

Traumatic though it may seem, in the course of his pursuit, he fell in a hole. An oold hole which always hurt him the most, no matter how hard he tried to escape. He fell. He fell deep. This time though he thought he could find another way that wouldn't hurt him. hehehe. But sadly, he chose the wrong path. Again. Idiot. He tried digging a tunnel cause he couldn't climb out. If he had chosen a different route, things might've been different. But he chose. Ego though it may be, he didn't stop. And along this path, he made others around him notice that he had fallen. This pricked shall we say a few cause they remembered how he had failed in his last attempts and were not willing to help. But most of them tried to show him a way. He felt weird. He was used to being a go-getter, getting things done himself. He wasn't used to and never had he ever asked in his life for help in the matters which truly mattered to him. He disregarded help. This made his peers even more frustrated towards him. But he didn't understand that. Finally when he "thought" he came out of the hole, he realized that all those helpers had forsaken him for good. Had he been wiser none of this would've happened.

But the impact of his hardwork was such, that it created a stir among everybody. He didn't understand it. He never thought what other people might think. This wasn't what he was used to. But an impact once made is an impact made.

The jist : Others started following his path. But in a different manner. People around him started changing the way his most beloved college ran. Gossip spread like wildfire. And once a fire awakens it seldom stops. It generally burns everything in its path leaving nothing but dust. He didn't know how all this happened. But it did. And that's what mattered. He tried and tried to get back the people he loved. But in the end, whats lost is lost. Fact. So he went for advice to the most aged learners he knew of his beloved college. And the advice was thus

"An eye for an eye will turn the entire world Blind"

He read it, understood it and applied it and "HOPEFULLY" passes it on because Wonders worked. He was at peace with himself and everybody around him. He forgave everybody and forgave himself for saying no to help.

But others around him were still young, angry and treading along the path of fire. Gossip rumors and politics kill the life of a college. Everybody likes to be liked and likes attention. Its human nature. But sometimes it goes to our head. Because that's human nature as well. Human Beings are FLAWED. But Higher Power has also given us consciousness, what WE get wrong is

the timing to use it.

Hence,

Advice to the Wise

For we are all Wise :

All one ever needs

To prove oneself in this world

Is to prove

To oneself and not the world.
